That's because it was an exhibition game.

That said, I've only been a fan for a couple of years. Don;t know much about the game.

I guess I should be crucified for saying the earth is round and we were crap
Well firstly you called this a 'humiliating defeat' when it clearly wasn't. You seemed to have ignored our last game against Portsmouth completely. Then you suggest we may not qualify for the quarter finals.

And you expected a debate for that?

Doubt we'll be as unarsed as that in the CL proper somehow.

Also, I wouldn't have minded Madrid as a glamour fixture, without the pressure of going out if we lose. We'd hardly have spanked them though. We'd maybe win the home game by a goal or two, then spend the away game trying not to concede any goals.

Real haven't reached the 1/4 finals since 2004. They are unimpressive in Europe, we are the reigning CL champs. We would be strong favourites if we came up against them.

Lets go Man U lets go!

In seriousness Nistelrooy, get a grip, the game tonight was a glorified friendly that would of been nothing more than 'nice' to win.

Ah, those dark days of 99/00 when WE WON THE LEAGUE.

My god, let us hope we never have an unsuccessful season like that again...

I hope that the poor performance in the first two games and a humiliating defeat in this one, will put everyone in their place, most of all the players who seem to go out and think they have a God-given right to win every game.

Only Tevez and the subs can get a passing grade for tonight, the rest played like England and kept hoofing the ball into the box far no one to get on the end of.

Many blind feckers are putting Vida and Evra as MOM, are you having a laugh? Vidic was skinned by Arshavin and owned by Danny, he was very lucky Danny missed the empty net. Evra was skinned 3 (in letters: THREE) times in the first 20 minutes, and any serious team would have punished us easily.

And no, I don't buy this "we played well when we could be bothered" nonsense. 15 minutes of bare dominance doesn't make up for 70 minutes of crap. It won't cut it against stronger teams. We were lucky to be playing Zenit (or may be it wasn't their night), it could have easily been 5 or 6-0.

I hope Fergie gives them a good hairdryer tonight. Otherwise, a repeat of not even qualifying for the quarterfinals is in order
Why don't you ask us all again when everyone is fit and available?

Unless of course Scholes ban comes back and bites us!

The original poster is right in many ways........you can't just decide when and when not to switch things on!

Momentum is important at any stage of the season and certain players were outclassed last night. Anyone who thinks 'well it was only a friendly and we weren't really trying' should have a serious rethink!

Having said that....it is not all doom and gloom either.

Disappointing that we didn't perform and it looked very complacent to me!

Let's see what a couple of weeks rest brings!

Easily 5 or 6 nil. We didn't play well, but they have a lot more match fitness. We could easily have got a draw out of it despite not playing well for most of the match.
