I'm falling in love with this team

I'm falling in love with this team.

Shades of 99 are appearing with four great strikers, shades of 08 with three world class players. Goals galore and never say die. Can't defend but who cares right, that will come.

Oh and Carrick-Rooney at opposite ends of the diamond will look amazing by season end

I thought this about last years team at the start, suppose its a more improved version today. I like it, I like the direction we are going in although not smooth and slick some day we get it done and no doubt we will be there or there abouts come may.

Either way I love any United team, it's United!

The way we seem to crumble under pressure certainly isnt 99' like, but in rooney and van persie we have a truelly world class strike team.

The team looks lazy, complacent and sloppy in 99% of games, struggling to see it as anything special so far and I spend large parts of most games shouting at the screen in frustration. I will admit to having a big man crush on RvP though

ATM I find us more 01/02 with the shambolic defending and goals galore than 98/99.

We had an iffy start in 99 as well. This team will click into form eventually and it will be glorious.

Can't say I agree with you.

In general I haven't been impressed with our performances this season, it feels there is just something missing.

As usual people forget that the 98/99 team was plenty ordinary in games for much of the season.
But I still think they had more leaders than this side.

I do quite like this squad though. Certainly full of goals, and a number of homegrown players.

I'm loving the entertainment value. The 99 team had a spine though.

This one has a half fit Michael Carrick.

To have 21 points without having come close to top form, with the injuries we've had at the back given how difficult some of our away fixtures have been is something to be very happy about. It's got to worry the rest that we have so many match winners in the squad.

Glimpses of a top side forming IMO.

Bit of bite and menace in our tackles today too.

We also had the best midfield in Europe in '99.

Still loving this team though. Brilliant to watch, so many goals in us.

It has no midfield and struggles to control games. Any games, not just the ones against half decent opposition.

And here I am thinking we've been very poor so far. Only lucky to have Chicharito and van Persie saved us on numerous occasions. Almost every game we've looked like we're gonna lose. Today even when Chelsea was down to 9 men I was still bricking it in the 94th min.

We're a joy to watch for the neutrals. I'm like an Alan Hansen impersonator in front of the box every week, though. That's not a good thing. Maybe it's my advancing years, but a bit more control wouldn't hurt. There's only so much unpredictability I can take.

It's precisely what Fergie said before start of the season... It's gonna be a ride with lots of thrillers, indeed. He only forgot to add - with shit load of goals ! This club is making the league far more exciting, not for the first time. TV stations and sponsors must love it.

Manchester United, the first cinematic action football club. (Suarez will propably win the Oscar, though)

You can see all the signs of them clicking but they also go through spells where there unsure which direction to go. But like alot of people this team jsut has something about them that makes it easy to fall in love with them. Youth mixed with class

I don't get this way of thinking.

"If it wasn't for RVP or Hernandez we'd be fucked".

Well, yeah, but we do have them, because we signed them, to score goals which win us games. Which they have done.

There's been a while since we looked as adept at cutting through teams as we do now. RvP's making us absolutely lethal.

It would be nice if we could defend at times though. I'm sure we'll improve when we have some fit defenders, and De Gea remembers he's not a 15 year-old about to lose his virginity.

Rafael personifies the entire United team right now. He symbolizes our spirit, attacking adventure and occasional defensive naivety. And I love Rafael lots and lots, same with this United team.

How many times have we 'crumbled under pressure'?! And if today's performance is an example of that then yes, it is '99-like, given how we threw away a 2-0 lead and a 3-2 lead v Barcelona and a one goal lead v Bayern (from 1-0 down) to ultimately draw both games, in between which we lost 3-0 v Arsenal, and then a couple of months later we did the exact same thing by throwing away 1 goal leads v Bayern and Barcelona...all before we'd even gotten to December.

Nah. Rafa has been amazing this season in terms of consistency. Can't remember any really stupid things he's done. Been our best defender.

If anything experienced heads like Ferdinand and Evra have been inconsistent while Rafa and Evans the so called younger guns have been consistent.

We have individual ability but right now we have a huge lack of fluidity in our play. Can't see how a team still struggling to find fluidity can be compared with one of the club's greatest ever teams. After 20 mins we were camped in our own have FFS. And this is against Chelsea, not Barca.

What is fantastic right now is the individual ability we have to get us 3 points when the team plays poorly. And yesterday's result was absolutely brilliant.

I would say it's the opposite with me. I'm not very excited by this team. I was elated yesterday of course because of the RESULT, but in general, barring Van Persie, the team in general doesn't excite me much. We've played some very dull football this season and I'm talking about our general rather than the scoreline.

Apart from great strikers I see nothing at all to compare this side with 99. Not even close IMO.

I'm not liking the amount of goals we are leaking. I hope when Vidic finally comes back this changes.

Agreed, and we already got the trips to Goodison Park, Anfield, Stamford Bridge and St. James' Park out of our way (with 9/12 points, last season it was 4/12).
After Arsenal next weekend we've got Villa (a), Norwich (a), QPR (h), West Ham (h) and Reading (a) leading up to the derby at Eastlands. That's as good a fixture list as we could hope for. Hopefully Vidic will be back too.

Unless we address the midfield situation, or Fletcher reincarnates into his 2008-2010 self, nothing is really going to change. We are going to have the same problem against every team with a half decent midfield. People often talk about defensive partnerships, I think midfield partnerships are equally important. Even last season our best run of games came when we were playing Carrick-Scholes nearly every league game.

Each time our midfield has been put under pressure, it has crumbled. Carrick is excellent in 90% of the games but in the other 10% he easily loses the ball under very little pressing or isn't brave enough to put in a tackle. Cleverley/Anderson are not consistently starting and as a reason haven't developed an understanding with the other guy starting with them. We have conceded some ridiculously easy goals this season by basically allowing the opposition player to just walk past our midfield. Bale, Kightly are the two that stand out in the memory from the previous few games. We leave huge holes in the middle of the park, it's annoying as fuck. The defense is repeatedly pushed into hopeless situations or where Evans/Rio have to make dangerous challenges.

We are fortunate that we have an amazing array of attacking talent, that so far has been good enough to score more than the opposition in most games. We will keep creating plenty of chances in attack but would remain suspect until the right midfielder is available.
