We showed against Arsenal in the cup that there's more than one way to skin a cat and having both JOS and Rafael as first choice for different games gives huge options to the overall team which is a great thing for the manager to have.
My hope with Rafael is that he will become a week in week out player once he gets over his injury plague that young players often have, a consistent back 4 is a great thing to have.

Yeah O'Shea didn't have a bad game at DM against Arsenal, and his height offers Fergie a good option against certain opponents.

I never mastered the Cruyff Turn but I reckon I could have a good go at replicating the Sheasy Shuffle.

I didn't understand all the flack he got yesterday. People were tweeting me saying he should be sold :-s
Didn't think he had his best game but I'm guessing the frustration of the game meant someone had to be the scapegoat

He didn't have a great game but it's not like he had a shocker either. Looked fairly solid at the back but offered very little going forwards - O'Shea in a nutshell basically.

Was disappointed at the lack of width provided by both our full backs, to be honest. When you're trying to win the game you want the full backs to be flying up the flanks, supporting the attack and making overlapping runs. Time and time again Newcastle were able to double up on our wingers and nullify the threat from out wide.

Evra made one good run in behind (almost led to a goal) but that was about it.

O'Shea was O'Shea, he was fine. He'll never be the best player in the team but he'll never be the worst. He gives a consistent performance.

I'm not his biggest fan, but I think he's actually been pretty good lately by his own standards.

O'Shea is solid and experienced and love him but, in a game like yesterday, he should have been subbed for Fabio I think. We weren't really being exposed defensively that much and the pace/ability of Fabio in the attacking 3rd could have made a difference. We saw even against City at least he was effective with just 10 men.

Overall though I would have preferred if Evra was given a rest and O'Shea play a few games on the left with Fabio or Rafael playing down the right.

he's really good backup to the first team

its difficult to have backup that can defend like o shea does and is as experienced and versatile, who understands what manchester united is about and who is happy to sit on the bench and be part of the squad

if he had a bit more composure, was a bit quicker and could pass the ball a bit better he'd be an excellent player - he is definately the weak link - then again - evra hasn't been shit hot this season

Though for games like tonight, it would be good to have a forward with a little more going forward.

Nani wouldnt pass to him, despite O'Shea making good overlapping runs.

That's because he can't cross......shoot, head, pass, dribble, is slow and has no technique.

I wouldn't call O'Shea a backup, since he consistently plays when he is fit.

And defensively, he is not a weak link. Most of the goals we seem to concede come from the opposite side.
He could obviously improve going forward but that realistically is not going to happen. Defensively, he was pretty good and certainly not a weak link.

Based on the 1st half, he has not put a foot wrong. Such a solid defender.

I dont think its crazy to ask the question if he should start instead of Evra for the final

I think based on recent form I'd put O'Shea in ahead of Evra. Park is also putting forward a strong case to start.

I think it is. He'd be torn apart by Alves and Pedro. Not even worth considering if we have a fit Evra ready to go

Can't fault his 1st half performance there thats for sure, very solid. I hope the injury or the knock he sustained isn't too serious.

People talk about Fletcher being a big game player but I think O'Shea is equally as good for us in the big games, very solid player

Players like Fletcher, Park and O'Shea are vital.

Okay Sheasy, we need you. One quick red card and a penalty won't harm you too much in your next game.

And then we need a penalty more from Richardson and Bardsley, and a couple of own-goals from Brown
