Jonny Evans
Played well for Northern Ireland by all reports....
United kid 'outstanding' 21/ 8/2008 JONNY Evans was outstanding for Northern Ireland as they held Scotland 0-0 at Hampden Park last night. United youngster Evans brilliantly shored up the defence as Nigel Worthington's 10-man side kept their first clean sheet of the manager's reign. Evans has been mainly utilised at left-back by his country but the 20-year-old was quick, strong and accomplished in his timing alongside Stephen Craigan as the Northern Irish held firm. "Friendlies are a bit different, but it was good to be playing centre-back, it was only my second time for Northern Ireland," the Manchester United player said. "We were here to do a job and it's a good platform to take into the qualifiers. Going away from home and keeping a clean sheet, if that was a qualifying match we would have got a valuable point. "You always get the work-rate with Northern Ireland but with that system, we worked really, really hard. "With the two wide men and David Healy playing up on his own - he worked his socks off. I don't think he has that much match-fitness, so it was a credit to him. "It's unfortunate he missed the penalty but he has got that many goals for Northern Ireland, I don't think it matters." |

He was pretty much the reason along with the Penalty save that the game ended 0-0. He made Kenny Miller virtually none existant and was Northern Irelands best player and only good player on the park. I honestly feel he has what it takes to be a United center half. Certainly has the potential to be better than any of the 2nd choices but it is so difficult to break in with Rio and Vidic that it would take an injury to one of these guys for him to get games.
If Rio or Vidic do suffer an injury i would really fancy Evans to be the first in line to get in the first team. |

He seems to be really improving he'll get a few cup games and that this year. Hopefully the boys can keep it together in the Carling cup so they can get a decent run of games for themselves unlike last year.
If he keeps developing as he is I think we have ourselves a right little gem of a centre half |

Cathcart and Evans is our future partnership. Cathcart can be our replacement for Vida.

I'd agree with Dipper, Cathcart and Evans look like our future cb pairing. With an awful lot of gossip linking us with Richards earlier in the season, it's interesting to note how quickly that died down since pre season when our young CB's have played extremely well.

Has the potential to be better then Rio, believe it or not. Rio at the age of 20 used his speed to recover, but with Evans he already has the positional brain for him not even use the pace he has which compared to Rio, Evans pace is nothing.

I'm not saying Evans can't do it and can see his potential but to say he's going to equivalent to Vidic or Ferdinand in a few years time as if it is a sure thing is just silly. |

I bet he'll be better than one of them at least in 4 or 5 years' time. Rio also seems to have a mild chronic back problem that could get worse as he ages.

That's a different question altogether. Evans may well be better than a 34/35 year old Ferdinand but it's being as good as or better than a 29/30 year old Ferdinand that we are talking about, because that's what we need.

He's never going to be as good as Ferdinand due to how fucking good Rio is.
![]() However, he's already good enough to play Premiership football at a very high level. |

![]() I wouldn't say Carrick is as good as Roy Keane, would you?. He's somehow managed to do a pretty decent job of replacing him though. |
