Solid game by Jonny I thought. I kind of expect Brown to play at CB and O'Shea and RB on Sunday though.

He gives me more confidence than Pique, he seems quicker and more composed.

Then again we can always play Brown beside Rio and O'Shea at RB. Thank god Evra's back, and hitting top form.

Awful performance, what a miss. Shows he's not ready for the step up yet.

Good game.

I`m confident he can deal with Chelsea. Well as well as anyone else that is.

Yeah, that wasn't Evans' fault. Good CL debut. Sky's the limit for this lad.

Not his CL debut though. He played against Roma last season and kept Totti quiet

Not a bad game but not great either. But I would trust him and play him against Chelsea

Pretty much, good performance from the lad. Never really tested though, and his chance was very difficult, even for a striker.

A future star, but he needs to improve his passing.

I stand corrected. That game was a bit quasi though.

Let's be honest here, Villareal attacked once and nearly scored.

They offered very little and while Evans passing was fine, defensively he wasn't tested. Unlucky not to score, I think what's evident in his game is he'll be a bonus at set pieces

Good game from him. Evans is looking like a very mature and composed defender. Right now I would have no doubts about putting him in the starting lineup against Chelsea.

In what way did he help? I can remember him making one tackle, and letting a player get passed him once. Not much help.

There's always alittle bit of double standards. If this was rafael people would be saying he's still not proved himself defensively and it's the same with Jonny tonight.

His passing was fine, he was brave in their box from corners. I just don't remember seeing tonight us come up against a team that...threatened much.

No dangerous crosses, no last minute tackles, no free kicks in and around the box...

samabachan - it did well because villareal offered next to no threat or maybe you were shitting yourself covering your eyes behind a big fat sofa?...

Having one big chance is not the same as attacking once. They mainly came to defend but our back 4 and midfield deserve credit for Villareal's lack of dangerous attacks. And Evans did as well as anyone in that respect. Composed.

Carzola was the only one who attacked. He was like Messi, when he came on he started to up the tempo in midfield and was involved in all the passing and attacking moves, of which most broke down due to inaccurate passing somewhere along the line. They had one attempt of note, due to having one well formed passing movement that threatened and at that time, our defence fell apart.

Elliot i'm not critisising evans. He's an exciting prospect

All I'm saying is that defensively he wasn't tested. Villareal played solid and then tried to nick it before settling for the draw once we gained another gear with our substitutions

If you want to debate it feel free. What did evans actually do?

You say rubbish the defense did well. I guess you must be the only one watching the game that thought we were in trouble?...

I can think of one chance. Maybe you can think of more....

Now I know it wasn't brilliant defending that stopped them. Nothing exceptional. Maybe you watched a different game?

What I said was basic but to the point. This wasn't a villareal team that played to win from the off....

this is in regards to the chelsea game of course because THAT will be a proper test. Tonight was nothing compared to the weekend and I hope if he plays he's made to work as 'hard' as he's had to tonight

I don't think you can take anything out of this game regarding Evans except of the fact that he got 90 minutes under his belt. Although the fact that it was a fairly important CL game against good opposition, as opposed to reserve football, means he will have had to concentrate and be on his guard, which is good for him.

I don't think he will start against Chelsea.

You were talking about an Andorran International. Evans has helped keep clean sheets at Sunderland and Northern Ireland against great teams.

I wasn't talking about what he did tonight. He had an okay game tonight. Not bad, not scintillating. But he's young, he's had a few CL games now. He looks comfortable. Sometimes Rio and Vidic can have exactly these types of games.

In fact, let me get onto a subject I love - sometimes John Terry can have much worse games than this (esp. for england) and STILL retain captainhood. He's just not international material.

Back to the point. He's done very well in the defences he's been put in. his record so far reminds me of matthew upson in his early days. everywhere he went he improved their defence tremendously. We're always talking about not giving young players the chance - now we can give him a chance. Vidic is banned. if brown goes in the middle, neville will get skinned by their winger(s). O'Shea at RB (no thanks), Hargreaves - we need him in CM.

Play the boy at CB!

Coke I'll say.

I didn't say the defence were outstanding but doesn't the fact they only had one chance suggest the defence might have done well? Anyway...
