Nothing wrong with defenders making forward runs. If its done responsibility you'll often find that a defensive player from the opposition will be dragged out of position in an attempt to dispossess the player, leaving one of our offensive players either unmarked or with more space to operate.

I thought he looked uncertain early on and his distribution was poor at the start of the game but he grew in authority and during the game and easily his best game in a while (albeit he wasn't tested physically too much which has been his downfall in games this season).

He played well. That header he went for and didn't get almost cost us as Rio had to come miles over to cover. But he did play well, think it shows the difference in playing alongside an established CB rather than who is a young player like yourself

When Evans makes a pointless charge forward, he leaves just Ferdinand behind him. He will have to hope Carrick drops back. Our fullbacks will be far up the pitch. We will only be left with Fletcher in midfield.
It is irresponsible and an arrogant thing for Evans to do. |

Clearly SAF encourages it, otherwise he wouldn't be doing it. Ridiculous to suggest its down to arrogance. |

I thought his forward runs were really productive. Created alot of space and opportunities. Almost grabbed a goal for good measure. His passing was good as well, looked very calm on the ball.
Hopefully this performance will shut the idiot Evan haters like TheReligion up. |

Like I said, I am a fan of Evans. I think he is a terrific young defender, but I do have concerns over this particular aspect of his game. I don't like it. |

He did fine today which is good as when I saw his name on the team sheet I wasn't happy.
I seriously doubted he would be back in so quick after the shambles at westham. Hopefully he builds on this and regains his form and shuts all the doubters and critics up, and I include myself in that too! |

Very neat performance from Evans yesterday, a little premature to suggest he's out of his slump in form, but a very good step forward. Loved the 2 times he pushed through midfield and so unlucky with that header.
Brilliant management from Ferguson, hopefully the injury wasn't too bad probably just a knock. |

I think yesterday in particular it was really effective. I love having a centre-half who isn't afraid to bring the ball up through the centre of the park, it always comes with an element of surprise, gives you an extra man and makes space, just as it did yesterday. So many of the best centre-halves around have done/do it. I don't think we need to worry about experienced players like Rio and Carrick plugging the gap if he loses it.

I don't know why Smalling didn't start today. He has partnered Vidic often this season and they've looked good together. We were a mess today.

Smalling should have been in the 18, not Evans. He's consistently played better and more often. Evans isn't why we lost, but throwing him into our back four eliminates any confidence they have.

Hilariously in the match day thread he was getting blamed for both goals, despite the first cross clearing his head by about 5 feet and the 2nd caused by a missed header from Vidic when defending infront of the near post. Mongs will blame him for todays result but he was no worse than Evra, Vidic, Carrick, Rooney or Berbatov

He was playing for two. Evans lacks concentration and doesn't inspire confidence with the rest of the back four. How Smalling or O'Shea didn't get a start ahead of him is baffeling. Johnny Evans is not good enough for United's starting eleven, end of. |
