Lee Sharpe Retires..
Sharpe quits
Lee Sharpe, the former United and England winger, has retired aged 32 after spending only three months with Iceland club Grindavik. It completes a remarkable downward spiral since he left Old Trafford in 1996. Sharpe, who won eight caps, moved from United to Leeds and then had short spells at a series of clubs including Sampdoria, Bradford City, Portsmouth and Exeter. Ian Ladyman, Daily Mail

Well, guess the Icelandic Super Duper League was too tough for this Sharpe dude.
Grindavik did not win a single game when he was here and have now won 7 in a row since he left. So, if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen! |

Sad news that, quality player and a personal fave when he was at United. Had the ability & potential to be the best English left winger of modern times. IMO had he stayed a red would have been a far better player than Giggs & a permanent fixture on the left.

Lee Sharpe wasted his talent, he used to go out all the time when he was at MU and was always on the piss (liked his peruvian as well) became best mates with a friend of mine Mark Russell(who went on to top himself through depression from all the drugs he was taking God rest his soul) and spiralled down hill. Another George Best sans talent.

An amazing player,
As fast as Giggs and as good a crosser as Bex, really could leave fulbacks for dead and in all honesty their isnt a player like him in the modern game, the closest to him would be Joaquin. He crammed as much breathtaking football into his few yrs at Utd that most players do in their careers, ill allways have fond memories of him

It is a mystery how a player can reach such heights and then suddenly spiral downwards into oblivion like a burnt-out Icarus.
What must it feel like to be such a young, winged-heeled hero who sports with Gods and clashes with Titans in a Theatre of Dreams and then suddenly wakes up one morning with feet of clay in a field of dead men? |

I heard Sharpey on the radio last week and he has no regrets at all, why should he..? Sure he could have done more with his career but he did far more and won far than some big names I can think of....!!!
Good Luck Lee, your a Red..!! Arsenal 6-2 away great night for all who were lucky to be there..!!

Sharpe was good because of his speed, as he got older, he got heavier and started to lose his pace a bit. Unfortunately wingers rely on speed as well as skill - a good player can change roles though, he could have gone back to playing as a left back but obviously didnt want to which is a shame because his career could have extended by a few years if he had.
Still, if he likes he's welcome to try out for my team here in Vancouver; i cant promise him a place on the first team, if he doesnt mind proving himself as a sub first though he might just make it... |

Sharpey was a top, top Man U, player.
Knew how to turn it on vs Sheep, Scousers, Blue Noses. He knew what it meant for the fans. Never forget the wonder goal against leeds away. Pity, great player who would have been up there with legends in 60's, 70's when footy culture was different. |

When he first arrived he was like greased lightning, just zoomed past fullbacks. Later on when he lost his pace he was still an amazing crosser of the ball but in the end ½ a mill to Leeds wasnt a bad deal. |

i feel sorry for sharpe
he is a good player indeed but followed the bad example of best and had bad luck on injuries he was also unlucky with emerge of giggsy i think his crossing and finishing are better the giggsy his goal celebration is second to none the best i had ever seen anyway i wish him all the best |

He is currently in Singapore playing golf or something and in an interview with a local tabloid earlier this week, he stated he wouldn't go back into football (eg. coaching or anything) and prob stick to golf and maintaining his business (a pub and other interests)
Yeah pity if i remembered correctly he nearly came to one of the asian leagues to play ... btw he has blonde hair nw for those who hav yet to see him for a long long time |

First full season (90/91) Sharpe won European Cup Winners Cup medal, was PFA Young Player of The Year, scored a hat-trick at Arsenal and made his debut for England. Not bad eh? |

A servant to the club and looked a great prospect, he could have been one of our all time greats, and it must torment him to think of the glory years he missed out on, and i suspect it had everything to do with shovelling lines of beak up his nose, what a shame!
