This seasons list is pretty woeful at the moment. We are averaging less than 1 goal a game.

What about Giggsy's goal against Chelski in the Community Shield? Doesn't it count?

Still silverware involved, and it's counted on different stats pages.

Why don't we make a format simpler, like Goal Score/Assist? Ronaldo 0/2 will be he score nil but assisted 2 and Rooney 2/0 will be he scored 2 but assisted nil.

The list format makes it easier to read who tops the charts

I suppose, if you aim to please, you could do that list below the above two.

I take it our goals stand then and haven't been put down as own goals.

You're being way too generous. Nani picked the ball up and went past a couple of players before firing from 30 yards. Not an assist in my book, all Nani's work!

There'll be other times where a player will hit a stupendous pass to send a player away who rolls the ball across for a tap in, the first player won't get an assist in that case though he'll have deserved one.

By that logic, you could go back in the chain of play three or four passes before where there was a massive save by the keeper who released the ball for the players which ended up in a goal, and claim that VDS should get the assist because he 'deserved' it.

You could but I don't, I go back one pass and always give it regardless of the amount it helped.

fair enough, a good rule but I would give it almost every time except when it's pretty obvious it didn't help much and the scorer was the real 'maker' of that goal.

Makes sense and should be the new rule, although it is also a bit of an interpretation at times whether it was a significant pass or not

I would assume neither....most stats dont include assists for an own goal.

Interesting that Ronaldo doesn't have single assist so far.

Rooney doing great on both counts as always.

Nani has been brilliant too considering that he has played fewer games.

I'd be very surprised if Ron and Roon won't reach 20 goals each again.
