1968 European Cup Final
Manchester United - SL Benfica ![]() ![]() Wembley Stadium, London May 29, 1968 Attendance: 100,000 Referee: Concetto Lo Bello (Italy) Relive the atmosphere before the kick-off... Lineups: ![]() United's star striker Denis Law is unable to play the match because of a knee injury and his absence leave many a Red worried how their team would cope. For back then, in 1968 Benfica is considered the best European team by France Football and possess a forward who is now one of the all-time footballing legends: Eusebio. Screenshots ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() An estimated 250 million TV viewers are watching worldwide while it is the biggest television audience since the 1966 World Cup final two years before. 100,000 fans packed Wembley on a searingly hot and humid May Night. As both United and Benfica wore red as a first choice kit, on the night United plays in an all blue away kit. Busby plays United in a 4-3-3 formation: Best, Kidd and Aston up front, Charlton, Sadler and Crerand in midfield and Foulkes, Brennan, Dunne and Stiles at the back. Benfica's main plan is to close down George Best, who had destroyed them with a hat-trick two years earlier in Lisbon. However by concentrating on him they leave Bobby Charlton with a free reign. Nobby Stiles' role is to man-mark Eusebio. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: release isn't mine. Manchester United - End Of Season Review 2001/2002
This football release features Manchester United--arguably, the world's finest football team--during the best moments of their 2001-2002 season. There were plenty of new faces, along with new contracts, including the return of Sir Alex Ferguson and the resigning of Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, and Keane. United may have been denied a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title, and may have lost to Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-final of the Champions League, but to call the season a failure does not do justice to the performances throughout the campaign. From the incredible 5-3 comeback at White Hart Lane to the quarter final victories over Deportivo, the season had considerable highs. That the trophy cabinet remained bare is only because of uncharacteristic errors that cost needless points. Code:
