Exactly double the number of votes as 2nd place. Good going, Val.

Great to see Scholes back in there too.

Well deserved top 5. Valenica clearly the best and Carrick clearly the 2nd best this month.

Can you explain this to me, the first number part, just to be clear.

"Usual scoring of 3-2-1 per top 3 position in each game, the first score is the total of these and the second is the total votes cast for the player."

There are 6 games. He's the best in one game so he gets 3 points for that and 12 points suggest he got, for example, 4 times the best and two times out of top 3?

Good stuff, he's been fantastic. Also good to see Carrick up there again, has he been out of the top 3 since coming on against Bolton when Cleverley got injured?

Since we can't write in the MOTD threads, I thought this would be a good thread to ask the following:

Are the votes weighted? For example, after a loss, or a disappointing draw, you'd get fewer votes overall, than after a crushing win. Would it make any difference if the votes are averaged to probably 50, then added?

For example, let's say one match got 250 votes, and 5 other matches got 50 votes. If Nani won MOTM in the one match, yet Rooney got 3rd place in 5 matches, your method would give the MOTM award to Nani, although a case could be made for Rooney winning, on the basis that he was more consistent.

Or am I being pedantic?

In the six games Valencia got 2 first places (2 x 3 pts) 2 second places (2 x 2 pts) and 2 third places (2 x 1 pt).

Fair question, although I think this system largely accounts for the number of votes cast in different matches by weighting the results on the number of top 3 positions. Therefore a match where the top score gets 50 votes gives the winner 3 points in the most important tally the same as the winner of a match who got 250 votes.

The only time that there would be a problem is in the event of a tie in the first result. Then the player who got a lot more votes in the winning match is placed at an advantage, however if his important contribution helps to a successful result then it is probably right that it gives him an advantage over someone whose top contribution in a match wasn't enough to help win it.

He's also awesomely consistent. His consistency is awesome.

Anyway, I too would like to make a suggestion to the matchday threads. They should be blind votes, like the polls. I tend to open them and then think, Oh, everyone else is putting Vidic third, yeah he was good come to think of it, and if I don't put him vuc will hate me.

Also, why can't we fucking post in there? I got infracted for that once...it was very upsetting. It makes no sense... We could bold our choices then put a line under them, they'd be perfectly easy to tally. Or put the rest of our comment in spoiler tags.

Here's an example of what it could look like, to help you mods get your heads round the concept of having football discussion, on a football message board:

Quote:
Rooney
Nani
Vidic

I tend to agree with this. I might be pretty clear about the best and second best, then see someone else get plenty of mentions and think "hmm yeah, he was pretty decent" and give him the last vote (although I probably only vote a handful of times each season). Disagree with the latter bit though. I'd vote for Rio for the same reason.

Nice one GD

Well deserved. Been excellent in a month where we have been lacking in Rooney and Nani quite a bit, he's really stepped it up, very consistent too.

Nice to see Carrick up there as well, finally starting to get the appreciation he deserves on this board.

Nice to see Evra up there - indicative of his general upturn in form; long may it continue.

Carrick is no longer a Caf scapegoat - feck me sideways.

Nice to see how good a player Toni V can be when he has confidence in his own ability. Started to play like a monster now, taking on players, taking shots, things he never looked like doing earlier in the season when he was getting flack for being predictable one footed and defensive.

Look at the impact Scholes has already made

I'd go along with the top 3. Valencia is looking very sharp for us at the moment.

The problem with criticising other people's choices in the MoM threads is that later posters can be put off by seeing one they would have chosen be already ridiculed by someone else - so they would then not choose that player to avoid ridicule.

If blind voting (like with polls) can be introduced then that would solve all problems. People could then comment as they like as long as they don't put too much and make it difficult to see who their choices are, as that makes the person's, who's tallying the numbers, job more difficult. I'm not sure if the mods have sorted the technical side for making it blind selections yet though. Also if there is too much discussion and half the posts are a debate it again becomes a daunting task to wade through the crap to find out the genuine votes.

Also I wish people wouldn't invent their own nicknames for players as, unless they're very obvious, can be difficult to work out. Voting for players who didn't play is a bit of a nause too, as when I come to them I have to check another site in case I missed them coming on as a sub for instance. One clown disqualified his vote completely in the last match because he had selected Gibson as his third choice.

Is there only a voting system for voting 1 person. Can't you do three? Can do you more than one poll in the same thread?

We really need somewhere to discuss the game, our players, their performances etc. Like a forum thingy.

There has been lately some "post ____ match thread' threads. No strictly speaking MoM threads. Which I think is fine. They'll probably be a showcase of negativity anyway.
