Premier League Points Record
*Apologies if there has been a thread on this already, or if this topic has been discussed elsewhere.*
So, with 11 games to go, and us accumulating 68 points already, we are just ahead of the points-per-game average needed to break Chelsea's 95 point record haul from 2004/05. As things stand, we are on course to garner 95.70 points. With us needing at least 96 points to beat the record, we need 28 points from the 33 that are available to us in the remaining matches. To put it into context, that's nine wins, a loss and a draw. Looking at our remaining fixtures, we should win all of our Premier League games in March. April is tricky with City, Stoke and Arsenal, and May won't be easy either, especially if we're still competing in the FA Cup and Champions League. If I was to be a little giddy, I would say we'll win our next five games, draw at Stoke, beat Villa, draw with Arsenal and Chelsea, beat Swansea and draw with West Brom, leaving us with 93 points. March 2 Norwich (H) 9 West Ham (A) 16 Reading (H) 30 Sunderland (A) April 6 Man City (H) 13 Stoke (A) 20 Aston Villa (H) 27 Arsenal (A) May 4 Chelsea (H) 12 Swansea (H) 19 West Brom (A) So, is it achievable, or is it just about securing the title as efficiently as we can in order to juggle our Cup commitments? |

Don't think we'll get it, especially seeing as we will most likely wrap it up early and have nothing to play for, and have to go away to teams like arsenal who will be fighting for 4th place. Think we'll drop points away to arsenal, away to stoke and home to Chelsea. Maybe away to west brom as well depending on how we do it the champions league and fa cup.

we could actually seal the tittle at old trafford, against city of all team, assuming they drop points somewhere before the 6th of april game, and we did not.
i would not mind fergei fielding a second or third choice team after that. we could give in more attention to our cup games if we are still in it by then. |

We'll most likely drop points at West Ham, Stoke and maybe Arsenal.

West Ham away is always horrible
We'll lose at least one out of that, Arsenal, Stoke and West Brom, and draw at least one of City and Chelsea at home. Which gives us no margin for error in any of the others. |

If the Premiership is won with a number of games still needed to play, Sir Alex will play fringe players.

Will be difficult to sustain this kind of form if we go deeper into the CL. Then of course we still have to contend with FA cup matches as well. Having said that though, if our squad stays injury free we have a good shout. This is as deep of a team we've had since I can remember.

The thing is, even with "fringe" players like Nani, Ando, Welbeck, Scholes, Evans, Smalling, Jones etc. we would still be quite a competitive team. I'd expect us to get maximum points for all home matches even with that team.

We wont beat the points record. As soon as we're champions Fergie will rest our main players for the ECL and FA Cup matches, meaning we'll inevitably drop points
Great 3 today tho, another banana skin avoided. QPR have really tightened up at the back under Redknapp, just ask Mancini

If the Premier League was our only commitment then I would back us to do it.
But when you are comfortable in the league and you have a genuine chance of winning the Champions League, I think you have to select your teams around the CL, like Sir Alex has been doing. |

If we won the league with games to spare, I can imagine a team like
Lindegaard Smalling Evans Jones Buttner Anderson Scholes Young Nani Welbeck Hernandez With youngsters on the bench, maybe a few starting. |

Problem is, we need a team to really push us. Supposing City won every game between now and the end of the season, that would put them on 89 points. And in all probability, they won't.
Therefore, supposing we kept this form going (which would be no mean feat), we would guarantee the title with 90 points, leaving Swansea and West Brom as games that we could afford to lose. The latter, in particular, is just 6 days before the Champions League final, if we make it. I doubt it. |

If we go out of the European Cup and FA Cup, this record will be all there is to play for... assuming it's "in the bag".
Personally I hope we don't get it, if it means we have a better chance of winning the other two. |

They also had the advantage of being pushed to the pin of their collar by Arsenal in the League, though. With only 45 minutes of the season left, we were going to finish as runners-up in the Premier League. That team had a lot of character, but they didn't have a cushion that the current team are enjoying.

The games leading up to that for us are very winnable with Norwich (H) West Ham (A) Reading (H) Sunderland (A). Man City's games in that period are Chelsea (H) Aston Villa (A) Everton (A) Newcastle United (H). They just need to drop 4 points in those four games for that to be a possibility and given their current form that is far from unlikely. A draw/loss is on the cards vs Chelsea and likewise with Everton away. Those two games should see them drop 4 points. |

I think it's more than achievable. It's not something which should consume our season, but certainly something this squad is capable of doing.
Nothing wrong with adding a bit of gloss, providing there is something to gloss. |
