Quoutes from 07/08 season

"I am not sure that Tevez and Rooney make an ideal partnership. They are very similar types of players. If Saha can't sustain 20 plus games in the Premier League then there would be a worry that United would rely on players like Ronaldo. To score another 15 plus goals is asking a great deal of Ronaldo and if i were a United fan, looking at my team for the season... The manager has done a great job by getting three very good players in, and maybe a fourth in Tevez, but what about up front? Where is the variation? Where is the crutch for Rooney?
Andy Gray, 1-8-07

"I don't think United are that good at the back, and last season VDS in goal was starting to creak, a frailty which might be further exposed this year"
David Pleat, The Guardian, 6-8-07

"For Manchester United, yesterday's defeat by City was more than a setback. You cannot win a championship in the first five or six games, but you can certainly lose it, and a blind man could tell you that United are struggling for a centre forward. As for Liverpool. Benitez finally has enough players to replace quality with quality, and this is what wins you championships."
Alan Hansen, The Daily Telegraph, 20-8-07

"The deficiency that is self evident in this side is the lack of a natural goalscorer."
Sam Wallace, The Independent, after Man City away

"A £17M signing from Porto, Anderson appeared lightweight, failing to establish any sort of telepathy with Carlos Tevez. Nani, a £14m acquisition from Sporting Lisbon, proved little more effective."Louise Taylor, The Guardian, after Sunderland home

"The early signs are that they should not expect too much too soon from Anderson and Nani, or perhaps, from Carlos Tevez."

Oliver Kay, The Times, after Sunderland home

"Wes Brown is expected to end his 11 year association with United by moving to Newcastle as a free agent next summer. The Defender is stalling on a new contract from the champions and has told friends that he will not sign."Ian Ladyman, Daily Mail, 19-12-07

"I've never done it and I'm not a big fanatic of that (going away for a 4 day break in Saudi Arabia, as United did in mid January). It can have a long term impact. The focus could go a little bit."
Arsene Wenger talking before Uniteds 5th round FA Cup tie with Arsenal

"Uniteds performance (against Chelsea) was in keeping with their general out of form lethargy for the past month."
Peter Gill, Football 365, after the April defeat at Stamford Bridge

"Messi's comeback has sparked a supposedly fading Barcs back into life. The boy is a genius. Barca are well capable of scoring at Ole Trafford if Messi stays fit. Henry's appearance was a brief camoe but one which showed he, too, could have an influence on the tie. They sya Henry never plays well at Old Trafoord. There is always a first time."

I must admit I was very disappointed that Anderson and Tevez failed to display any psychic abilities in that game.

Scouser Alan

He surely talked about scouser quality. You know, Voronin proved to be a slightly better signing than Eric Meijer. KRAP

Brilliant stuff, although nothing quite on the level of the Essien calculator.

"If we don't win it, I will take my shirt off and call Arsene Wenger. I'll say 'Boss, I want to stop playing football' because I have a lot of ambition and part of my ambition is to win the title.

"As a player if you don't have an ambition, I don't know why you are playing or what you stand for.

"I have a lot of dreams and ambitions with Arsenal and I know they will come true.

To be fair to Miss Taylor, Anderson had one of the poorest debuts that I have seen from a multi-million pound signing. But it is foolish to judge a youngster on his first forty five minutes in a foreign league.

The own goal of the season, from Mr Penalty:

Quote:
I would have expected United to have started a bit better but a lot of clubs have bought really well over the summer. Five points is a hell of a gap to have this early on.

It’s going to be difficult for United.
So farewell then, JT.

I don't know about supportive pundits, but I remember Keano saying a few times throughout the season that we would win the title, even when we went through that 'rough patch' in the beginning of the season
