Real officially reported to Fifa

On the official website

09/06/2008 15:30Reds report Real to FIFA On 27 May,

Manchester United made clear its intention to report Real Madrid to FIFA if it continued to involve itself in the future of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Unfortunately, Real Madrid has not kept its own counsel and the Club feels it has no alternative but to make a formal complaint to the world governing body, which it has done today.

The precise content and nature will remain confidential.

Good. Doubt anything will come out of it, but still good to see the club state an example.

It won't get Madrid punished. But it puts to rest all those rumours peddled by MARCA that United are secretly negotiating a sale.

This should be in the huge/all inclusive Ronaldo thread.

It will be bad for football is nothing comes off it. This "I always get what i want" attitude that Madrid has, has to be punished.

It's not rumour and speculation though. It's a clear fact that United have reported Madrid for something. It should be in its own thread.

Excellent. About time someone stands up to Real! Doubt anything will come of this, but it's worth showing Madrid that we won't accept such Bullshit.

The argument by Madrid will be that we were just the same when we tried to get Hargreaves.

That's bollocks, but it'll cloud the waters enough to avoid any punishment to Madrid.

Not to the same degree. Marca release daily shite linking Ronaldo with Madrid, with "inside" info. The presidents comments have not helped matters either.

I think we did secretly show Hargreaves around Old Trafford and meet with Fergie after the World Cup. So that was a bit dodgy.

You didn't have Ferguson making public comments that Hargreaves would soon be a Madrid player like Schuster did though. And I don't remember Gill making public announcents about Hargreaves every day either like Calderon has.

And we backed off once it was clear Bayern wanted to sell the next summer only.

3 year transfer embargo would be funny - but nothing will happen in fairness

A transfer embargo this summer would be fanastic - we win the double again, smashing them along the way and giving him a huge contract, he gets married, is naturalised (give him a passport etc) and has kids with his gf who wants to live in England because Colleen is her new best mate.

Magic.

Yeah we haven't been entirely innocent in the past.

I was actually surprised we reported them. There is a lot going on that we obviously do not hear about though.

As much as I would love to see Madrid get knocked down a peg or two I don't think anything will be done.

In my bollox he is. Ronaldo has said fuck all, except that he wants to play in Madrid one day. He's kept his options open, end of. I can't get over some of the over-reacting here, it's laughable really.

Nothing will happen, but is there any doubt that they did not try to tap him up?

It's not designed to get Madrid punished. It's just a public warning to Madrid (and Ronaldo) that we do not want to sell.

And to quell the papers incessant peskering of our player.

Madrid seem to think they have some divine right to court Ronaldo and play every paper in the world. We should follow this through and deface them through legal means.

This won't go anywhere with FIFA. And United are not so innocent. This is all part of the game that started when Ronaldo left his future up in the air. All we've done is show that we will play hardball if necessary to keep the player.

I wouldnt expect a decision from FIFA, at least we take them around the windmill in the ultimate anti-climaxing fight between good and evil.

I wouldn't say we were anywhere near this bad.

The obvious difference between this and the Hargreaves situation is the Marca claim that Real have already agreed personal terms with Ronaldo and his agent, despite United's refusal to listen to any offers.

If this is true, it's flagrant breach of the regulations that govern football transfers and in a different league to any "tapping up" we've been involved with in the past.

Of course, I still don't think anything's gonna come of it. I mean, who are they gonna call as witnesses? Ronaldo? His agent?

If only that cnut Brazillian journo scum prick which has caused all this could be proved to be linked to Madrid and Calderon like he so blatantly is.

I'd like to see him hauled over the coals along with Calderon

Yeah, that's almost certainly what will happen.

My big worry is that being so aggresive like this - along with the "rot in the reserves" comment - is going to be counter-productive and burn our bridges with Ronaldo and his agent, forcing us to agree a cut-price deal in the last couple of days of the transfer window.

It's gonna be a looooooong summer, that's for sure.

what's the point!

and also, the problem with fighting for him is not that we're gonna burn bridges with him (he did that by himself, without any help from us), but that we are going to look even more helpless and pathetic when real do eventually get him (which they most prob will).

I'd rather we take them for every single cent they've got and buy good players, win the treble next season and rub ronaldo's face in what he's missing.
