IIRC, it was Bayern that went public about the United approach first. For all we know, that was the first time that Hargreaves was aware of it.

A charitable interpretation would be that he was ready to play for free; I think he knew, especially as he was pictured having a medical the day after England played at OT ages before he actually moved!

I don't think he was ready to play for free but I do think he knew there was a very good chance he was gonna get better paid at United than he was at Bayern. I mean, that was always gonna happen, to be fair.

Whatever, we certainly haven't been whiter than white in the past. If you ask me, this announcement - along with the "rot in the reserves" stuff - just shows how badly rattled we are by the whole thing. Which worries me

Just speculation, but it could be that it's not in the best interests of Rons agent to see him go to Madrid & he knows something that will help our case? Last time we took a stand over Obi Mikel it cost the renties a good few quid.

And in response to other people claiming Ronaldo is blameless in this, he could have stopped this very easily. By refusing to answer questions he's only fueled the rumours. Best case scenario is that he's just after more money, and even then it doesn't reflect well on Ronaldo.

Some of the vitriol against Ronaldo is over the top but in my opinion, even though it may hurt the team in the short term, I see no way that a lot of fans will welcome him back with affection. And as others have said, his price is probably the highest it will be. I'd ask him straight if he wanted to go and if so, sell at a ridiculous price.

Of course it's all speculation, but his constant refusal to clarify his future or correct printed "quotes" only fuels the rumours.....if we were reading that Gerrard wanted to go to Chelsea with the same quotes and Gerrard refusing to answer questions on it, we would all consider it viable. We made a bid. Bayern was the one that made it public. We had a few quotes from Fergie and Gill that you would expect from a club trying to buy. We're not saints here. But every single club, particularly the big ones, do exactly the same. Real Madrid go far further.

I think a lot of it is because he is trying to stay away from the rumours while he's preparing for the Euro's. He probably isn't reading the papers, isn't looking at it on the internet or tv. So he probably isn't aware of all of rubbish coming out about him. He'd know the basics obviously, but probably only the official stuff that have come out from the two clubs. All the rumours and innuendo would likely be nothing but background noise that he's ignored.
