Red and Yellow Cards

In the games so far this season:

Man Utd vs. Middlesbrough

Yellow: None
Red: None

Chelsea vs. Man Utd

Yellow: Scholes Ferdinand Neville Berbatov Rooney Evra Ronaldo
Red: None

Man Utd vs. Villarreal

Yellow: Tevez
Red: None

Liverpool vs. Man Utd

Yellow: Tevez Vidic Nani
Red: Vidic

Man Utd vs. Zenit St Petersburg

Yellow: Scholes Tevez Anderson
Red: Scholes

Portsmouth vs. Man Utd

Yellow: Vidic Neville
Red: None

So that gives us 14 yellow cards and 2 red cards in 6 games, is that normal for Unitd ?

Vidic's and Schole's cards could easily have been avoided, it was just frustration due to the poor start to the season. Once things pick up we won't get many reds. We are normally a well disciplined side in terms of cards. The cards in the Chelsea game we know was a bit a of a farce.

Almost every yellow we got at Stamford Bridge was ridiculous.

Riley must have been on the juice...

Scholes was bleesed not to get sent off in that. He blatantly tapped Pard pards ankle but the ref didnt even give a free kick.

Against Villareal I knew we'd end up getting a stupid booking. 2 shocking challenges on both Park & Fletch went unpunished and I said that one of our players would get carded for something less and Tevez ended up being booked for a nothing challenge. Against Chelsea, well that was just a farce TBH. I can understand Scholesy getting booked because he had a few nibbles earlier in the match and also Nev because he lunged in at Anelka. Also Rooney's wasn't really a surprise because he lunged at Ashely Cole, but the rest of them were more or less for nothing yet Joe Cole gets away with cynically bringing down Rio, he didn't even get carded

Isn't it 18 yellow and 2 red, since Scholes and Vidic each got 2 yellow in the games they saw red?

Two reds so early on is generally quite unusual for us. We normally get two reds for the entire season.

That is normal. The Chelsea one isn't though. I thought there were way 2 many cards shown. Apart from that everything is normal.

as far as the red cards are concerened, i think both ones could have been avoided, generally we are pretty disciplined team.

Tevez really likes to go in for the lunging tackle, with both legs looking to take the ball and the man at the same time. Sometimes it works, but more often than not, the player in possession just knocks the ball away, thus earning Carlitos a yellow card.

I 100% agree that our disciplinary record has gone downhill this season.. I made a comprehensive thread about it earlier in the Newbies.. Which clearly showed that our percent of receiving one has gone up by almost 2/3rds.. If any one is interested I could post it up here... Its shows number of games played yellows/red received and average of yellows received per game... for the last 2 seasons in comparison to this season...

The bookings at Chelsea were ridiculous.

The ref, as Fergie said, has been rewarded for being a moron by the Head of Refs - he's got the biggest game of the day to ref.

We all know, that had he given seven card to the bin dippers, he would have been demoted to League 2 for the week

Scholes as per usual was v lucky against chelsea. He tripped Custard Lampard and got away with it. Could and probably should have been a red.

Updated Hull (H)

Rafael and Tevez have one yellow card each in the Champions League so far.

Three yellow cards from the group stage onwards means a one match suspension and then a further one match ban after five, seven yellows etc.

Domestic yellow cards so far:

Four Yellows

Rooney

Three Yellows

Brown

Two Yellows

Fletcher
Vidic
Evra
Tevez

One Yellow

Neville
Ferdinand
Scholes
Nani
Ronaldo
Campbell
Berbatov

A one match suspension is handed out if a player receives five yellows before the end of February. A two match suspension is handed out if a player picks up 10 yellows before the second Sunday in April.

Hope he takes a yellow against Arsenal. I rather he miss the Stoke game then the games against Aston Villa or city.

I think he'd miss the QPR game if he got booked in the Arsenal match, which would be perfect. Having said that he would then only be five yellows away from ten yellows and a two match ban.
