Retired Van der Sar won't solve Utd's No. 1 problem

Retired Van der Sar won't solve Utd's No. 1 problem - Football news | MSN Sport UK

I didn't realise we had a problem?
I think we have the best goalkeeping squad in the league!

Thanks for pointing out their idiocy which so many people believe. Other than Spurs (I think at the moment Gomes, Friedal and Cudicini are better than Lindegaard, DDG and Amos(Kuczcsak?)), but other than them, we do have the best keeping squad in the league.

Many teams would struggle if their no. 1 was injured - we won't, it's almost a like for like swap. Sunday's performance epitomised DDG for me, still aerially shaky, but demonstrating so brilliantly what he's been able to do all along with his excellent shot stopping and reflexes.

What a legend. I love the guy.

But yeah, I agree. We don't have a problem, it's just the media circus making it seem like we do.

In other news:

United will NOT bring ex-star Andy Cole out of retirement to improve on the offside prone Hernandez, the inexperienced Welbeck and the inconsistant Rooney.

Others have had the same reaction as mine on seeing that headline. What problem?

I think its fair to say we have the best goalkeeping squad behind Spurs. Though at this moment in time there are a few teams with a better first keeper, given ours are young and relatively inexperienced.

Having brought Scholes out of retirement, tho, you can see why hacks might pursue this thinking to churn out easy stories.

It's just too lazy though.

We had ONE fit midfielder in december at times. That's something entirely different. And Scholes himself asked to come back, plus he's clearly kept himself in shape.

You would think we were struggling to get in the top 4 the way these stories are coming out

Are you calling VDS fat?

Yes, its very lazy. Journalists are just like everyone else. A lot of them have copy targets to meet and so churn out a lot of shit.

Hey - watch your mouth, gimp.

I'm one of them.

Admittedly not in sports, and not in the day-to-day press but still.

This is what we refer to as a not-story. What's the point of writing about a potential thing that is NOT the case? It's absurd.

United will NOT end up bankrupt.

It's not a fucking story.

I'm so glad I don't have to churn out a story every day, sometimes based on absolutely nothing but theories. I've had to do it before, it's not particularly clever.

The funny thing is that our Number 1 "problem" is that we have a very talented young goalkeeper that just needs games to get experience and an older yet surprisingly inexperienced goalkeeper who has been fantastic and is offering real competition for the shirt.

So what the article is saying is that Van Der Sar will not solve the problem of two potentially excellent goalkeepers competing for the shirt by coming back (and offering even more competition for the shirt).

Great article.

I enjoy watching everyone complain about De Gea, etc and then a journo comes around saying they aren't good enough it's tits up defense of them. The problem with judging keepers is most don't have to worry. With the exception of Cech, I can't think of a top six keeper who has been out any significant amount of time, and of those few injuries that have occurred, I can't remember a time when the backup keeper blew a title for them. So I don't give a toss about keeper depth, I just want consistency.

Anyway, Liverpool has a stronger tandem with Reina and Doni - both proven keepers at the top level.

Aye, it must be depressing that City spunk all this money on players and we are within touching distance with no keeper, a permanently injured defence including no Vidic and no midfield.

It's obvious that Reina is the best goalkeeping squad in the league on his own. He has 10 clean sheets ffs.
