nobody gives a fuck deep down, but this is a forum about united, and Lynott got abused for saying he didn't like Rio. Rio is a super footballer, nobody disagrees but these days we are privvy to a little bit of who they are and Rio hasn't come across quite as good as he could have off the pitch. The game and the celebrities who play it are rammed down our throats so we're bound to formulate some opinion. To be abused for voicing it just because it may be anti-united in some perverse way is stupid.

Its always been double standards with utd fans. They get it into their skulls to warm to a player or not and then from there that decides what the player can get away with. roy holds the club to randsom he's doing it for the good of the club, he's standing up for what he's worth etc etc..rio does it...he's a greedy bastard, flash git etc etc. cantona kicks a fan resulting in a lengthy suspension..fans fault, deserved it etc etc rio misses a drugs test gets a ridiculous ban stupid cnut etc etc the list is endless. wayne rooney gets away with acting like a total and utter bellend 50% of the time because he's wayne rooney. Always been the way. But even for those nuggets out there they have to admit rio's performances merit the accolade even if the dislike his Perceived personality |

I find it hard to argue with someone that doesn't rate him, it's ridiculous. To say Vidic is twice the player is a bit silly, they're chalk and cheese it's Bruce and Pallister all over again, just enjoy it while it lasts. |

Vidic never convinces me as much as Ferdinand does, its just Vidic makes it his business to attack every single ball that comes in his direction..
But Ferdinand is the complete defender. The reason we win games comes from Ferdinand and his organisation, and his pace. The ability to play as high up the pitch as we do. |

Rio wins enough headers and commands the back line more than Vidic. He is the leader in the defence and many people only realise the importance of him when he's not in the team. At the moment Vidic needs Rio more than Rio needing Vidic. Saying that the partnership between these two is perfect as they compliment each other quite well. |

I actually quite like Rio's personality, as far as I am able to tell what it's like. The times I've seen him interviewed, he's seemed a bit of a laugh, making the odd joke. Always makes me smile. And, yeh, he fucked up, but he's definitely a reformed character and I actually think he loves the club now. There's definitely more passion in him.
As someone pointed out -- it's unlikely he'd be the most popular figure in the dressing room if he were a total cock. And those World Cup windups were actually quite funny, no matter what people say. |

I've come to believe that for some fans it is all about the haircut.
We've had people complaining about Anderson's hair recently. Before when Rio had long hair, people thought he lacked concentration. Now that he has a proper football haircut he should be captain. It must be an English thing. Oh, and I've always rated Rio and think his personality is just fine. |

I've said all along Rio should be captain. This business of swopping armbands with Ryan is ridiculous. I don't know what Gary's future is and when or if he'll return but I'd make Rio club captain right now. He is a great player, something which at last is universally acknowledged, he is demonstrative and has leadership qualities.

Sorry golden. Will post my thoughts here about Rio.
------------------------------------- At last, he get the credit he deserves. Rio's in most of the experts "team of the season" and has been quite fantastic for us ever since he came back from the suspension. His debut season was a little hesitant, but we still won the league that year. He was fantastic in autumn 2003 before he got suspended for 8 months. Would say that he has been the world's best central defender two seasons in a row now, and was also brilliant in 2005/2006. Among non United fans most of them think or thought he was overrated, but more recently many have mentioned him as one of the world's best defenders, although many who are critical of Rio raises his "lack of concentration" but I think it's exaggerated to a great extent that he has problems with concentration. I am so pleased that Rio Ferdinand is playing at United and hopefully he is playing for many more years at this club. Fantastic footballer and he has really matured on and off the pitch, great leader and a future Manchester United captain. |

Whats all this about a bad boy rapper image or his hair that is a load of crap. I remember when Beckham had plaits on his head i thought he looked stupid but he did not affect how i thought of him as a player. Him using words such as Brap or Merked does not mean he is a knobhead or thinks he is a gangsta he can say what he wants. The only mistake he has ever made in my mind is the drug test and he came back a better player after it.

Great player is Rio was very pleased when we signed him, in fact we should have signed him earlier as it was obvious he was going to be great. The defence misses him immensley when he nots there which shows just how important he is. It is amazing how easy he makes the game look, he defends, leads and is comfortable on the ball what more can you ask of a centre back? wrld class he is and hopefully he can go on at that level for another 5 years plus. I think alot of the off the field stuff is overblown if you read is autobiography you can tell he is a decent person who is a bit forgetful but there is nothing wrong with that.
