I don't know any of our squad personally so i judge them on the pitch. I didn't like KR's attitude on the pitch, so i disliked him as a player.

Rio is a leader on the pitch and a fecking awesome player. I have nothing but respect for him
Well put.

Rio wins enough headers and commands the back line more than Vidic. He is the leader in the defence and many people only realise the importance of him when he's not in the team. At the moment Vidic needs Rio more than Rio needing Vidic.

Saying that the partnership between these two is perfect as they compliment each other quite well.
Spot on . Nothing further to add

If this wasn't a stupid enough comment at the time, then it would now appear to be one of the most ridiculous statements in caf history.

He's the best defender i've seen play for us now. An unbelievable player, even more so than McGrath and Stam. Carvalho is perhaps the only defender that is anywhere near his level.

Deserves to be captain after Neville. Needs a word in his ear from time to time Christmas fiasco should never have happened

Keane was no angel when he was with Unied at the beginning.
What he said. He'll make a great Captain now that he's grown up.

I'm with you, he does a lot of work for kids charities, always seems to have time for the fans and people who have met him say he seems a good bloke, not bothered about how certain sections of the media potray him.

Had a discussion with an Irish United fan yesterday. He said Ferdinand is average and Vidic is by far the better defender (the best in England). Maybe he's still passed because of his ban, or I dont know, but how can you not rate him?

My hands also well and truly held up!!

Never really had a problem with him personally - as obviously I don't "know" him. I was peeved at his ransom demands during the contract saga, not for trying to get more money - God knows we're all entitled to do that if we can get away with it - it was more to do with the timing after the ban and support shown by us at that time.

He has wiped out that "crime" by his timely recent contract renewal and statements about the club and fans.

Thought he was a bit of a knob for his TV/merking escapades, personally I think there is plenty of time for that shite if you decide not to go into coaching/managment ala Wrighty. This though I put down to maturity, of course time solves that.

Oh, he's also been fucking magnificent for the last two/three years!

This person obviously takes what Eamon Dunphy says as gospel.

Rio Ferdinand is one of our best central defenders of all time and is worthy of the captains armband in place of Neville, absolutely no doubt.

I've seen him as one of the finest defenders around even since his early days with Leeds, an excellent season with them which made him selected in the england squad for 2002 world cup.
