Which rivalry matters more to you? City or Liverpool?
For me, the answer is clear. It will always be Liverpool. Too much history between the two of us and they're a club I can actually respect.
When it comes to City, my only mindset is putting those pretentious fucks back in their place. Some fans feel differently as they see the importance shifting with City's rise. I say City's one title does not instantly change the nature of the rivalry. I take a little more seriously but I lost all respect when I look at how quickly their squad was assembled and amount of cash influx they used to fund it. Plus City are trying to copy everything we are doing and then say 'we do it better'. Again, with Liverpool, there's just too many experiences and too much history for me to ignore and it will always be the greater rivalry. I don't see City matching what either of our clubs have done anytime soon. What say the Caf? |

Due to their recent riches and trophies won, make no mistake that City are our main priority at the moment. But they're just short term IMO. They won't be able to match the achievements that ourselves or Liverpool have done. True they are our Manchester rivals, but nothing and I mean nothing comes close to the rivalry with Liverpool.
I'm nearly 30 years old and growing up as a United fan, I always viewed Liverpool as our biggest rivals and I still do. It's still the first one I look for when the fixtures come out every season. It doesn't matter where they finish in the table, or how long they've went without any titles, it's still the biggest game in English football. It's about emotion, it's about history, it's about one-upmanship, it's about putting the scouse bastards in their place. |

The current situation should imply that our games against City and Chelsea are the most important, and they are if you consider winning the league (which is important, I guess). But, my main reason for beating the sons of ***** is that I really loathe the money spending vultures of clubs. I actually would prefer if Liverpool got fourth place instead of those clubs as they are financially raping the PL at the moment. I would fancy Liverpool as our greatest rivalry, then Arsenal, then City and Chelsea. In terms of which games I most look forward to, it's against Arsenal (used to be great, still is but the intensity has faded a bit), then Tottenham (gung ho) and then Liverpool (third because they have a nasty habit of playing well beyond their talents against United). |

I'm with Fergus' son - Liverpool>City>Leeds
I grew up in the 90's and had it ingrained in me that Liverpool were our biggest rivals. I then spent years defending myself against Liverpool fans who despised Ferguson's United for taking their crown. That said I have far more respect for Liverpool's achievements historically, and they remain our greatest rival in being called the biggest club in the country. There is a totally different type of hatred that I have for City. Their rise to prominence stinks of "new money" and you don't earn respect over night. Their fans have quickly forgotten how far they have come in a short space of time. They do however constitute the largest threat to our chance of landing the title, and hence our our biggest title rivals. I grew up with stories of the rivalry with Leeds, but their fall from grace has been so severe, with the exception of the odd cup game, they have fallen off the radar in terms of ongoing rivalry. |

Liverpool for me, as a non-local the City rivalry never really registered, not until 2009 at least, but there were a lot of Liverpool fans where I grew up, victories and defeats against them always mattered more. Until fairly recently I was a lot more concerned about beating Arsenal and Chelsea than I was about City.

I've always hated Shitty with a horrible hate, I was brought up that way. You were either red or blue & never the twain shall meet.

I'm not a local fan and I have been following United since mid 90's so the rivalry between us and Liverpool is a little bit pale, non-existant, weak. I've never perceived them as a proper competition (bar one season).
Same applies to Leeds. I've never liked either of these teams but don't really know why. When i think about my era of supporting United our main rivals have come and gone - Arsenal, Chelsea now City...and that's how i will rank rivals- whoever is the present threat is the main rivals. I don't care about the past- what happens now matters. |

Who the fuck would think Arsenal and Chelsea are proper rivals? It goes a lot deeper than a couple of title races.
Liverpool for me, and I'm sure vice-versa. |

Beating Liverpool is the best, even in mid table mediocrity, it still feels so good beating them, dunno if the same could be said if city were so far behind. |

Hating Liverpool is so ingrained in me, that the first time I ever went to the City itself, I was expecting the whole city to be a barran wasteland of shit. I was quite suprised when it turned out that this wasn't the case.
Anyway, the order goes: Liverpool City Leeds I don't like the current incarnation of Chelsea, but that's just because I don't like them... it's not down to a rivalry or anything. It's much like how I hated late 90's early 00's Arsenal (and man did I hate them...) but now, I have no strong feelings at all towards Arsenal... I even quite like Arsene Wenger. |

City
Scousers Leeds Hatred of Liverpool wasn't so big in the mid-60s when I started watching games. City were then on the up-and-up and for a while, dominated the Manchester football scene after 1968. Plus they had Malcolm Allison and Mike Doyle who were two of the biggest blue-nosed twats ever. That in itself made them easy to hate. |

I can still remember that match against Liverpool at Anfield in 1999 when we were leading 2-0 and they came back 2-2 for a draw. They got a penalty which never was, Ince scored the equaliser, and celebrated like they'd won the title themselves. Irwin was also sent off in that game which was ridiculous.

It is, and always will be, Liverpool. City are just a temporary distraction in comparison. Liverpool are a big club with real history and our closets rivals in terms of number of titles.
