Well it's a bit of both, really. RvP is the better CF (no doubting that), but Rooneys the better all round player, esp in that 3 man midfield role.

Rooney is quite charitable fwiw. Remember all those matches, stuck out wide when Ron was the main man? He's a team player. He'd probably play CB if he was asked to. I'm just happy we have both. Absolute match winners, the both of them.

I think Rooney prefers his current role over playing CF anyway, so good times ahead!

Disagree with that completely. When has Rooney even sulked about playing out of position? Podolski, for example, is whinging already about playing on the left at Arsenal. Rooney is more than happy playing in the ACM role, he sees more of the ball, makes more use of his work rate and gets to display his range of passing.

You can say that RVP is playing up front because he is better but RVP can't play anywhere else anyway.

Rooney is an incredible player, perhaps with more all round game than any other top level player in the world. Rooney got in 9 tackles and interceptions against Arsenal, that chap at Celtic, who everyone is getting giddy about, got in 7 against Barca. Our Wayne can do it all, whereas RVP is a striker.

Shhhh......

You are not allowed to mentioned this in a forum full of saints and a closet Barcelona fan.

Rooney haggled for his contract, he is an evil being and "just" a decent footballer.

Blasphemy!!

It is a very good post. Also against Barcelona he was playing as a left fullback together with Park on the other side with Ronaldo alone on top.

As when other players would start to sulk (Berbatov for example) Rooney just takes more responsibility. We have been spoiled with Scholes passes during the year so obviously Rooney is not going to be that good unless a miracle will happen.

Van Persie is extremely fast the last third and that left foot of his is a threat from far far out the box.

I think Van Persie is a bit like this dude. It's him and Valencia who are able to twist their upper body one way and their legs the other. Just fucking awesome.

I give to you Sy-klone.

Also, wouldn't mind hearing your reasoning for why you've listed those below Ronaldo as you have. A major criticism of Van Basten is his failure at the World Cup. That's usually cited as the major blight on him in all-time striker debates when compared with the likes of Puskas, Eusebio, Muller and the like.

Last question is why you have Batistuta where you do? Not that he mightn't deserve the spot, but your reasoning for putting him there interests me.
Ronaldo at his prime was untouchable. Shame about his injuries, he would utterly dominate football if he's playing now.

He's well good, seriously confident right now too. Tried a volley from 40 yards and I wasn't even mad, if that was Nani though.....

RVP is good for at least 2 or 3 chances a match. Just an amazing player and was so unlucky not to score today. Still made the 3rd goal though.

yup, 3 yards out, he had to score. You can see what he wanted to do, but he still should have scored.

or maybe, just maybe it's that this way it works out better for the entire team.
Yes, Robin is more clinical and a better striker, but it's also true that Rooney is way better suited to the position, or should I say positions he's playing in than Robin is.
It works out both ways, because while both of them are obviously skilled enough to play both, they each excell in one of those areas, and why not use it to our advantage? Does starting RvP up front mean he's a better player than Rooney? No, it means that it's the best set up to get the most out of both of them.
And obviously Rooney doesn't have a problem with it, as long as he's playing he's happy, and he always puts in a shift. Although admittedly I'm not a fan of putting either player out wide, but I would be willing to try out a sort of a 4-3-3 up front with Chicharito leading the line and Rooney/Robin on his left and right.

He's out with an injury and won't be part of the Dutch squad. Hope this is just one of those injuries Ronaldo and British Chelsea players that magically appear a few days before an international and disappear the day of the club matches.

I'm surprised we haven't seen more players do that. Those international friendlies are so bloody pointless this week.

The same "injury" that a fair few players pick up before a pointless international.

Most pointless game there is, this one.

In the middle of the week between two league games, supposedly to prepare the next international games (which are in what? February?). I could understand any manager making up any bogus excuse to pull his players out of this one.

Why make something up if he's spoken to van Gaal? What's wrong van Gaal just resting him instead? Lots of managers are picking experimental squads.

You'd probably have every club manager wanting their players rested then if one player gets an off.
