His arrogance doesn't bother me in the slightest, when you're that good why not have a bit of arrogance? Cantona had the same type of arrogant aura about him, and what Ronaldo said is the complete truth. He came 2nd/3rd in the awards last year, he came back stronger to score 42 goals and help his team win the League & European Cup, what else can he do? It's the absolute truth he's saying. I fully expect him to pick up both awards and if he doesn't, then it's a bloody farce. As SAF said, if anybody else wins them then give us the guy who does

Right now on form, he might not be but certainly over the past year, he's been better than Messi.

Cantona was even more arrogant than him.

Journo: "Who's the greatest French player ever?"
Cantona: Me

He does say some of that. But just says he thinks he deserves it which isn't too controversial.

It's fair that anyone who's such a clear cut favorite for both awards to say so. And why not be a bit arrogant when you're the BPITW?

Yeah but Cantona had charm (and you suspected he was taking the piss a bit) Ronaldo's a bit dim and charmless.

That's true.

Ronaldo doesn't have the charisma to get away with his arrogance. Henry was another one who was arrogant but couldn't get away with it.

No different from what Ronaldo said a few weeks back...

Journo: "Who's the best player ever?"
Ronaldo: "Me"

Rio said Maradona.

Ronaldo deserves the Ballon d’or bar none. Being an arrogant footballer sounds okay, almost all great players were arrogant in thier own rights but conducting himself like a twat for other interview is a different argument altogether as his self appreciative hysterical prattlings is increasing proportionally with time. Two good seasons he has already declared him the greatest thing since sliced bread. Even Rooney fans are less annoying.

I think he totally deserves it. If he doesnt win it this time around, I dont see any United player ever winning it. Highest number of goals in the CL, Highest number of goals in the Premiership and reaching the qtrs of the EURo's... what more can he really do?

When Ronaldo hit his top form last year, which was pretty much October on, he was fucking unstoppable, he conquered and conquered Europe he should be awarded both. I had no fear going into any of the games last year, because he always seemed as though he could score a winner in every match

Ronaldo was the best player last season no question. For all his ability and pieces of great skill, Messi's barcelona side won fuck all.

If he had the season Ronaldo had, scoring 42 goals I'd imagine his side would have won the double like we did.

The one not so bright spot was this summer's Euros. Portugal underperformed. That said, Ronaldo was involved in all the good things they did coming forward. His performance wasnt in the least bit bad, just not what you'd expect from the best player in the world.

Messi was great in the olympics and has been on fire so far this season. But it should be too little too late against a winger who outscored europe's strikers all season long. 42 goals no winger is likely to ever manage again.

I hate his arrogance, it fucking annoys me.

He does deserve the award though, without a doubt.

I wish this award would be given today cause it would all those Messi Vs Ronaldo arugments.
Ronaldo should win it but since we know sometimes players who didn't deserve it won the award ,you never know.
