Ronaldo & Neville announces...
Gary Neville and Cristiano Ronaldo have now announced that a new season is within "two weeks or so" according to Neville, and "two or three days, we will see" according to Ronaldo. Whether it be two or fourteen days, it will be Aberdeen facing us, and a lot of new faces could appear in the side. Having had a great season winning the double, it is now time to shift focus, and start thinking of pastures new.
With the first pre-season game to start in approximately 2-14 days, how does everyone feel about the coming season? What will we end up with trophy wise, and who will shine? Any youth breaking through, or any first team regulars that will do a Ronaldo and explode into the next big thing in world football? Will Possebon, Manucho, Welbeck and Campbell impress during pre-season and gain a place in the first team? Will Saha be injury free for the entire season, or be sold after a f-a-p accident following his game winning goal against Aberdeen? I'll do a prediction on the trophies with my head, because doing it with my heart would just end up being too unreal. The one predicting the contents of our 2008/09 trophy cabinet correctly at the end of the season will receive a new Shay Lauren gif and a night with yours truly. I think we'll end up with the... Community Shield Super Cup World Club Championship Carling Cup Premier League FA Cup Due to our depth in the squad, we'll be able to field quality players for every competition, but with all our rivals adding to their squads like madmen we will find it hard to compete all the way in the champions league, unfortunately. You heard it here first. ![]() |

I don't think we'll win the World Club thing or the Super Cup. Domestic treble definitely on, and I think we'll win the Champions League again. Yes, others are adding to their squads but new players have to be bedded in, and there are new managers at some of our rivals too. Our squad will be the most settled and SAF will use the Ronaldo furore to create once again that fantastic "Us against the World" spirit - also because the ABU mood will be huge because of our success last season. The season's highlight will be a massive touchline punch-up at SB between CQ and Scolari. Players and staff will pile in, there will be huge fines, deduction of points for Chelsea and a touchline ban for Scolari for the rest of the season. Can't wait!!!

Am I missing something, what are they announcing?
With regards to how I see the season panning out, I wish I shared your confidence BillyBob mate. Heres my prediction; Community Shield - Win it, be tough as Pompey will be relishing returning to wembley & I expect us to field a youngster or two. Super Cup - Posh Charity Shield, I think we may or may not be interested in this, Fergie will play a youngster or two to gain 'European Experience' World Club Championship - I reckon it will be full throttle for this, people seem to think this is a tin pot cup, but for winning I think 6 games theres a lot of prize money on offer. Carling Cup - As usual, will be rely on kids & will be knocked out early rounds Premier League - Winners, equal Liverpools record & Fergie will announce his retirement plan is to overtake the dippers & retire. FA Cup - Difficult to predict, I think were due a few easy teams early rounds this year so I expect us to be there or there abouts. Think the World Club Cup/Toyota Cup (or whatever) has been missed out, a one off game which we won in 2000, this is a cup Liverpool have never won, so I expect Fergie to go all out for this one. Also missed out Champions League, if we can reach the Final I wil be over the fucking moon, how great would it be to defend this cup? We go into it next season on the back of not being beaten in the 2007/08 season & it will be tough because everyone wants to beat the current champions. |

When does this take place, and where, Ander8on? Could it cause a fixture pile-up? |

Just read that the two cups have been merged (Toyota Intercontinental Cup & World Club Championships), so its a one off competition that features 6 teams. Its to be played in December & if I remember correctly when Liverpool were involved in this in 2006 I think it was 2 or 3 PL games they had in hand at any one time after December - so I would say it is a concern to our club. On a different note, Boca just missed out - Wonder how Teveth would have felt playing aginst them? EDIT: This competition has had more changes than a Benitez team selection, I cant find any official details on this, so the goalposts could move again? |

The Premiership at this point in time is too early to call seeing as none of the challengers (us, Chelsea and Arsenal) have made any real signings but if we keep Cristiano then regardless of whoever the alsorans sign we'll have as good a chance as anyone

Aye.
All the winners on the less strategically important soccer continents play first, and then the European winners (us) get introduced in one semi-final, and the South American winners (Fluminense or LDU Quito) get introduced in the other. It's almost always the case, therefore, that the final is between the European and South American winners. Which is harder than it sounds, because the South American teams really take it seriously -- and why not, it gives them a chance to show that they're not any worse than the European clubs who think that they're better. |

Nani, Anderson, Evans and Foster will greatly increase their stature in world football. Campbell and Rodrigo too, but to a much lesser extent as it will be out on loan at Hull and a Championship club respectively. Welbeck will improve to the level where he makes his England u21 bow at 18 and get a few chances from the bench at United while coming along nicely physically. As for Manucho - he probably won't be here at the start of next season as he won't get a work permit. What happens after that is anyone's guess. It'll be very exciting to see what level Fabio, Rafael and Petrucci are on. Rumor has it Roma were thinking of giving the latter a few chances in the first team.
