Ronaldo's Ewood battle cry

james robson
17/ 4/2008

CRISTIANO Ronaldo is convinced victory against Blackburn on Saturday will be enough to make United champions.

Though Sir Alex Ferguson's side would still need to beat Chelsea a week later to confirm the title, Ronaldo believes another three points at Ewood Park will kill off the challenge from Avram Grant.

Chelsea face Everton tonight knowing only a win can keep their slim championship hopes alive following Monday's shock draw with Wigan.

But Ronaldo insists it could all be in vain: "When Chelsea dropped points after we won it was fantastic for us," said the Portuguese star. "We are in a good position.

"Blackburn will be a tough game, but if we win we have a good chance to win the title."

While Chelsea as good as conceded their challenge after Monday's draw, Ronaldo believes United proved their title credentials with Sunday's win over Arsenal.

He says it was substitutes Carlos Tevez and Anderson who swung the tie in United's favour.

"We won the game because we changed the players," he said. "Anderson and Carlos came on and changed the game. It's very important for the team to have those sorts of players to come and change things."

Ronaldo says he had no fear after being forced to re-take his penalty against Arsenal: "When I scored the first I didn't know why it was disallowed," he said. "There are only four games left and there was a lot of pressure. But my confidence is high."

A must win game against blackburn

Agreed.

This is our biggest game of the season thus far.

Until the next one eh?

Must say, it's a big one, but having seen their performance against the dippers, they're there for the taking.

If Ronaldo can get 10 goals in the 4 games left, forget PFA Player and such, he deserved to be Sir Cristiano Ronaldo

3 v Blackburn
2 v chelsea
3 v west ham
2 v wigan

Is it 39 goals now?
Dennis Law scored 46 I think. will be tough for Ronaldo to catch Dennis...
Does'nt really matter but would be nice to get 7 Ronaldo goals in the last games, would maybe win us the double..

If Chelsea lose some kind of points today and we win, it's in the bag. Big weekend coming up

Firstly Everton better stop Chelsea winning tonight. Then its up to us against Blackburn. No holding back, no slacking. We must play to win and get all 3 points.

No gifts from Santa

Roque Santa Cruz has warned United that they will not get an easy ride at Ewood Park on Saturday as Blackburn look to keep their slim chances of UEFA Cup qualification alive.

Mark Hughes' side lie ninth in the table, 10 points adrift of Everton, who currently occupy the all important fifth spot.

United on the other hand know victory over their Lancashire rivals would edge them to within three points of the title, but Santa Cruz insists Blackburn have just as much to play for.

"We have nothing against Manchester United winning the league, but we are in need of points to get closer into Europe," he declared.

"That's our ambition, but there's few games left, so for me this game against United is like a cup final.

"If we want to keep the pressure on Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Everton, we need to get a result."

love the title

He's scored more goals with his head than his left foot this season.

On the ever occuring topic of interpretation by the media... how does "Blackburn will be a tough game, but if we win we have a good chance to win the title" become "Ronaldo is certain that a win at Ewood will make United champions" ?

"Blackburn will be a tough game, but if we win we have a good chance to win the title."

How the fuck does the writer deduce that Ronaldo said if we win against Blackburn we are champions?? Really pisses me off about the press in this country, jumping to overblown conclusions.
