Ronaldo's future in doubt. ~ X-File 71B "Tme loops?"

By Henry Winter
16/05/2008

Cristiano Ronaldo last night revealed that he would consider his future at Manchester United after next week's Champions League final.

Confusion surrounds the Footballer of the Year's true intentions, as last week he stressed his commitment to Old Trafford and his contract does not expire until 2012.

""I am happy here but let's see what happens after the Champions League final," Ronaldo told Spanish TV at United's Carrington training ground yesterday.

"I am feeling calm here. I'm happy here but in the future I don't know."

Asked about Real Madrid, Ronaldo replied: "I have said millions of times that I would love to play in Spain but it's one thing to dream and another thing for it to be reality.

"I know Real Madrid like how I play and I know that other teams in Spain like my game as well, so that's good. But I'm happy here."

When informed that Real's president, Vicente Calderon, admitted to being "obsessed" with signing the winger, Ronaldo said: "Of course it is good to know that other clubs are interested in you."

Ronaldo, asked if he felt he was the best player in the world, said: "I try to give the best every time but everything has to be taken in proportion and right now we are playing very well. I work every day to be the best, not only now but for five years."

United's manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, said: "Kaka's performance in the Champions League final against Liverpool possibly won him the vote as Footballer of the Year last year, but this season there has been no one to match Ronaldo."

It would save an awful lot of hassle if we all just front up to this.

Release a statement saying unequivocally the following:

- Yes i will join Real Madrid.
- No i am not leaving Manchester United this summer.

Put one out at the end of each season till he decides when it is time.

Henry Winters is an Arsenal loving nonce. That said it's the most credible source of this story thus far.

Spot on! At least then we wouldn't have an entire summer of uncertainty.

hypothetically speaking of course, if he was to leave what sort of price would the club slap on his head. £50 million ? £100 million ?

150m would be more appropriate, considering the merchandising power.

Football transfers are far more complicated than that. So what if Ronaldo wants to leave? United have him under contract and Real Madrid know it would take a ridiculous amount of cash to persuade United to let him go. Of course Madrid say to their media that they are interested but they also, from time to time, give interviews in which they say they recognise that there is no chance of it happening now.

And at some stage in his career, Ronaldo would clearly like to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona, so whenever he is asked by the spanish media, he always comes out with a statement that suggests he is keen to play in Spain.

But of course he too knows that he'll have to wind down his contract so it only has a year or two left before he is in any sort of position to pressure United to allow him to move. If he throws a tantrum in order to leave then all those World player of the year etc etc honours go out the window.

So the game is played out again and again.

How much is Ronaldo worth in merchandising i.e. how much from shirt sales did we earn from his name?

The "news" is on BBC...

I think the classiest thing he could do when asked these questions is say:

"I am not going to go through this again. If you have any questions about my future, please refer to statements I have made in the past. I have nothing new to say."

If he wanted to add something extra, he could say:

"If United were as lazy in our football as you lot are in your journalism, we would be Derby County. Why dont you think of something new to ask me, fucknuts?"

I hope he doesn't leave. I have to admit, it's not the fact that Manchester United as a club aren't big enough, or aren't the best. But the fact that He's won Premier League Titles, Domeistic Cups, Golden Boot? Player of the Year, Player of the month awards, Young Player of the year and quite possibly a Champions League title with Manchester United already, and he's still very young. Having done all that in England already, why stay? The only reason is if he wants to become a real Manchester United Legend like past players, or whether he wants to acheive things in different leagues around the world. If he wants the latter more, then Spain is the only place for him to go to do that. However, looking at the past players from the Premier League who've gone to Real Madrid, he probably won't perform as well as he has for United. We usually get the best out of players.

my worry is that SAF will be fuming with his comments. you just have to look at players who have incurred the wrath of fergie, and look where it's got them. straight out the door. SAF has the policy that no one is bigger than the club, and therefore expendable.

Stam - out
Beckham - out
RVN - out

beckham was worth an absolute fortune in merchandise alone, a hell of a lot more than the pittance the club sold him for. So ronnie, if its just all talk and you want to stay - wind your neck in

Ronaldo would be really testing that theory. My guess is while no player is bigger than the club, some players are undoubtedly bigger than others. He got away with this shit after the World Cup, I am sure SAF will turn a blind eye again. If he leaves it wont be because SAF kicked him out.

The agent works for Roanldo, as much as the former might try to make it work otherwise.

If he so wished Ronaldo could release a staement all on his own account and quit this forever hedging his bets nonsesne.

I do not believe that he is angling for a better contract, he'd get a more than decent one regardless and comments sucha s these are not new and so would make little impact IMO.

In some ways what he has said is fairly typical footballer P.R speak, and he is attempting to play to an audience in England and one in Spain that he does not wish to annoy before time. Though ultimately he is a player under contract to this club and receives due adoration for what he has done for us, and i think that the supporters and the management dserve a little more respect in it all.

Say no comment or be utterly frank about it.

More poor handling than aything as it stands, maybe the club could look to find him a new agent. Tevez has expressed similar aspirations, a desire to end his career elsewhere, but his interactions with the media seem to reflect better on all concerned player and club alike.

Ronaldo seems a very ambitious player and if we win the Champions League; then MAYBE he would want to leave because he would have won all top awards. I hope this is specultion but real Real f*cking are relentless.
