Definite legend for me. Just a shame he played in a period in which we were lacking any kind of a settled team, albeit he almost single handedly kept us near the top.

The pass from Veron at 6:43 (Juve, Pre-Season USA Tour 2003 I think) is still one of the best through balls I've ever seen.

I loved Ruud, I still like to see him play and I still wear my United shirts with his name printed on them when I play, he was absolute class. Legend.

Can't help but wish we had Ruud instead of Owen. He may be three or four years older, but he's a better goal poacher than Owen ever was. And even though he dug the hole that saw him sold, I still have a soft spot for the guy.

At least outside of the Premier League. He was one of the best strikers in the world and our sports press didn't give him enough credit for it. There are many people out there who still don't know how good Mr van Nistelrooy really was.

One of my favorite players of all time. best goalscorer during my time i think.

Still cant belive the world cup (or was it european cup) when Kuyt was chosen ahead of him for Holland.

A pity he was basically lifting a pretty weak United squad; 2000-2004.
- Our goalies were pretty much rubbish (Barthez, Bozzo, Howard, taibi, Carroll, Andy Goram-Goram, the Spanish dude)and conceded howlers.

- After Stam left, we had very inconsistent centrebacks pairings. Rio's ban and lapses of concentration costed us points. Tweety's lack of confidence, O Shea showing he was a hopeless centreback, we even had Gary Neville in CB for half a year. Blanc was slow as feck. Brown was always injured for huge chunks of seasons. Cunt was not a CB and also rubbish after the injury.

-Our midfield was solid but its powers were on the wane. Roy's hip surgery and age meant he was grew less influential and more worked up. Giggsy had one or two really shocking seasons where cafeposters wanted him ship-out. Scholes was brilliant as always. Becks was very good. Seba was also good. Quinny Fortune was solid but always injured. The squad players we had in MF whenever any was injured/out of form/fatigue were horrensous (watch out..here it cums)-Liam Miller, Kleberson (the Ronaldinho's friend),Eric Dj-Dj, Alan Smduge Smith, Kieran "Rico" Richardson.

SK- Upfront, we only depended on Ruud. Ole was injured or moved to right wing. Cole and Yorke left after 1st team spot became a rarity. Forlan lacked confidence and became irrititated after realizing that even scoring goals did not guarantee a first team spot. I remember he had corn rows on his last game and took a shitty freekcik when he wasnt the intended kicker. Ronaldo was soung and learning.

Having said all these, it was no wonder Ruud left for Madrid since he realized he had pretty much been caryring United for 5 seasons with little silverware. Still, I was angry at his behavior during the departure. If he had left on good terms, we would have milked at least 20-25 million for Ruud instead of only 10.

I like very much the one he scored against Juventus at Old Trafford and the one against Arsenal at Highbury

Fantastic compilation, cheers for bringing back all the memories.

Have to say though he was scintillating for most of his first couple of seasons, then he was sidelined for a couple of months with a achilles problem in 04/05 if I remember correctly. He lost a bit of pace and the period after that is when most criticise him for slowing down our play and such I would think, because in the first few seasons he was quite unstoppable.

He didn't look like his old self that time, but he was still banging them in. Would have been nice having him around rotating with the other strikers if those incidents which lead him to leave didn't happen.

I have seen some lads on this forum have a go at Ruud. Not just for the way he left, but also that they did not overly rate him.

They have not posted in this thread yet......

He was incredible for us. Goal machine. Best finisher I have seen at Utd.

Really gutted when he left, and proved he was nowhere near finished as his record at Madrid speaks for itself. Just shame about the injuries.

If Fergie was to sign him in January on a short term deal I think many of us would complain. (Also it would stop him going to Pool)
