Lifestyles of the rich and famous

Favourite pastimes

Ronaldo Sunbathing, shopping, serenading beautiful women, such as Nereida Gallardo, a Spanish model and former girlfriend, and spurning the advances of scores of others, such as Paris Hilton, reportedly.
Scholes Watching Oldham Athletic, staying at home in Saddleworth with his wife, Claire, and their three children, occasional fish and chips.

Favourite hangouts

Ronaldo Any of the world's super-clubs, present favourite being Villa, a popular celebrity haunt in Los Angeles.
Scholes Saddleworth's local pubs.

Fashion sense

Ronaldo Gucci, Prada, anything designer, and tiny Wham!1980s-style metallic shorts, not to mention lots of diamond encrusted jewellery.
Scholes About as bling as Tring, Hertfordshire's small market town.

Life's mission

Ronaldo To become the best, most famous and highest-paid footballer in the world.
Scholes To live the quietest life possible while continuing to excel for arguably the world's most famous club.

What they say

Ronaldo “I would like to play for Real Madrid, but only if it's true they are ready to pay what Manchester United ask of them.”Scholes “I'm at Manchester United, what more do I need?”

Words by James Ducker
Now you're being harsh. Ronaldo is like any other young player more attracted to girls, money and fashion as a 33 year old family man. Of course, Scholes is a perfect role model, but our young players like to party and that's ok for me as long as they focus on football.

Ronaldo's still a bit of a cunt though.
Scholes is an absolute legend and I hope he will play for another 2 years!

What do you mean by harsh? I was just pointing out the obvious contrast between them (besides they are not my words! I was just quoting). Ask Sir Alex if he likes his players to lead a life like the show biz celebrity which obviously has an impact on their focus on football, and he will certainly have a different opinion from yours!

Besides, none of our young players have shown such disrespect for our club. They do not need to be like our legendary Scholesy, but at least they have to be a little less selfish.

what a legend. I love this man way too badly - I wish he'd never age and never would never stop playing football. As what has been said, a proper class act and this from Telegraph just underlines it :

When Nicolas Anelka's penalty was saved in the hard Moscow rain, Scholes went over to every Chelsea player he could find to commiserate. "There is respect there," he said.

"It was such a tight season – we beat them at home, they beat us at their place and only penalties separated us in the final.

Scholes added: "I think it will be close again this year. I am not too sure if Arsenal and Liverpool will be involved, but you can guarantee Chelsea will be.

"You just felt sorry for them to lose in such a way. If it had happened to us, we would have been devastated. There was nothing you could say to them except go over to shake their hands."

won't be surprised if he call it a day on the same season as Sir Alex.

remember his debut

He's right up there. You get the impression while he's technically sound and can manipulate the ball so well, he wouldn't do tricks as such because he's so modest. He does the odd one or two down the years but everything is with the team in mind.

Does anyone know how much Scholes gets paid, relative to other players in the squad? Just wondered whether he has paid the price for not having an agent and not trying to use the media to get himself the best deal. Has SAF recognised this and remunerated him in line with his status at the club anyway?

Scholes was the reson I became a United supporter. At mid 9's Ryan Giggs got more attention than anyone in England, think. But it was Scholes who I liked more. I had a feeling that he'd go on to become a superb player and he had.

I do not know what I will do once he calls it the day. Will be shedding bucket loads of tears and will be a very emotional day. Scholes is the mere definition of the word Model Professional and something all Pro's should try to be.

I remember hearing awhile back Scholes is in the 80,000/85,000 lb a week range. Not sure if that is right so anyone who knows more please feel free to correct me.

As for taking advantage of him, I do understand very clearly Scholes walks in by himself and sorts his contract out. Again iirc he even told United he was making plenty last contract negotiations. So my understaning is that far from taking advantage of him Scholes himself capped his wages.

Real reason I started this thread is because of how I feel about Scholes. Just about a week ago there was a thread about Keane and whether he was a c*** or legend. I mean I worship Keane on the pitch and what he did for us, but he ain't Scholes. I can easily see faults Keane has and for all his brilliance on the pitch and honesty off it, Keano is far from a perfect person.

Scholes is just a model all the way around. I mean can you imagine how proud his parents must be for how he conducts himself on and off the pitch. My God, Scholes humbles me.

And can you imagine how proud his children must be feeling about him for being such a great role model and so down to earth? Well they might be too young to appreciate it now but maybe in 5,10 years' time!

When you watch again on video his footballing talent, scoring goals or not, you just wonder how he can be so humble off the pitch! LEGEND! Geez I am proud! :-)

Fact of matter is, for Scholes, he's probably so humble he doesn't really want mega obscene kind of wages. He just feels lucky playing for the best club in the world, and that's the best reward! :-)

Very true. Not for Scholes that whole line of argument: you have such a short playing career that you have to maximise your earning potential while you can. Scholes evidently feels that the millions of pounds he has earned without an agent is sufficient. It is a refreshing attitude - and one you would be very, very hard pressed to see anywhere else. I mean, as Rob said, Keane wasnt the same kettle of fish off the pitch. He held the club to ransom over wages. As did Fergie. Everyone is at it.

Scholes is truely one of a kind.
