Scholes will return to the Red Devils' squad for Sunday's trip to Charlton after completing the one-match ban he picked up for his late dismissal at Everton last week.

Though any mathematical hope of reclaiming the Premiership title vanished last weekend, United are still looking to overhaul Arsenal over the final four games and claim the second automatic Champions League spot.

Scholes should be a key element in that bid, as well as United's hopes of lifting the FA Cup at the Gunners' expense in Cardiff next month.

But despite recovering his form in mid-season to register another 10-goal haul this term, the quiet man of Old Trafford insists his overall contribution to the campaign has proved to be something of a let-down.

"My performances in the league this year have not been great," he told the official Manchester United magazine.

"I have scored 10 goals but it took me a while to get off the mark and overall I should probably be doing a lot better."

Disappointed

By his own high standards, Scholes has been below par at times, although there are others who could be equally disappointed with their own performances.

Nevertheless, after a decade competing for all the major honours, it must be difficult watching Chelsea dominate at home and abroad in the manner United supporters have become accustomed to in the past.

Though the Old Trafford camp appear divided over whether the FA Cup on its own represents success, after another relatively poor league campaign and a second successive early exit from Europe, the 30-year-old claims the capture of some more silverware at the Millennium Stadium on May 21 is guaranteed to bring a certain smile of satisfaction.

"You always enjoy the season more if you are winning things," he said.

"In the league we paid the price for not having the best of starts and in the Champions League we just didn't play well enough.

"Winning the FA Cup would be a decent prize at the end of the season and I will feel a lot better if we win it, but at this club we do expect more than that."
Lets face it mate you haven't been below par. You've been utter dog shite! Scholes is not the same player he once was.

It's funny that in recent weeks, players such as Rio,Ruud, Keano and even Heinze have been slagged of by various posters in different threads but when local lad Scholes is rightly criticised the local Mancs get upset and start gay little polls. These guys are upset cos they see Scholes as one of their own which is fair enough, having people in the team who are from the area is good for the fans.

The guy has been poor for the majority of the season, he had one spell where he scored in consectutive games but on the whole he has been poor.Fergie admitted at the start of the season, Scholes himself admitted it so why are people on here so annoyed when supporters criticise him.If I thought for one minute that Scholes was capable of reproducing his old form on a consistent basis I would never think of selling him, but I just can't see it happening.

Our midfield needs new faces, we know Keano isn't the player he once was, but I think we could still get a few quid for Scholes and the fact that he came through the ranks means it would be pure profit which in the current financial climate would be welcome.

If we do keep him, which if we are all honest will probaly be the case, he is not going to play every game, at the very least we need someone of quality to be challenging him which is going to be difficult since we have little money.

On what basis that you can't see Scholes reproduce his old form?
Having seen him produce top class football for nearly a decade, why one bad season means he can't do it anymore?

he`s far from finished, a scholesy in top form proves that.
consistency is what we need from him, and the current tactics are preventing that.

Oh well in that case...

Cheers for that, i'm always forgetting to change my well-founded opinions when they contradict the inane ramblings of a load of autistic 12-year-olds
