Scholes On The Midfield

Scholes' midfield mates

Sir Alex Ferguson is spoilt for choice in the centre of the park with Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick, Owen Hargreaves, Darren Fletcher and Anderson all vying for a starting berth.

Here, veteran midfielder Paul Scholes gives us the lowdown on his fellow comrades...

Carrick
Michael is a top player who brings a relaxed nature to the team. He can pick the ball up anywhere on the pitch and pass it long or short. He can also tackle and score goals, so he can do everything. He’s just a really good player to play with.

Hargreaves
I knew Owen before he joined from our England days. He’s a great athlete who gets about the pitch very well and is a good passer of the ball. Last season was a bit stop-start for him because of injuries, but once he got some more games under his belt, he proved what a top player he is.

Fletcher
All the players know what a quality player Fletch is. He was unfortunate not to play for parts of last season, but you have to give him credit for sticking at it. He never moaned, he just continued to train well every day and more than anyone he deserved his chance. Whenever he plays he’s fantastic for the team and he showed that against Arsenal in the FA Cup victory back in February. It was unbelievable to see the way he ran about, despite not having really played for a couple of months.

Anderson
He improved as last season went on and is a great prospect. It’s a well known fact that foreign players can take time to settle, but in truth it didn’t take him that long. He’s been fantastic whenever he’s played. He’s only 20-years-old so it’s amazing to think what he could achieve in his career.

I really love our midfield now compared to how it was two or three years ago. The characters, the style of play, the capabilities. Others may have the bigger "stars", but this is one of my favourite midfields in the world right now.

It was a problem two years ago and SAF has solved it! That midfield will only get better.

I love our midfield too, each player brings something different to the team.

I'm just so excited about the footballer we could have on our hands in a few years time in Anderson, everything about him just exudes class. Except his sexual habits that is.

Well he's hardly going to say

Carrick:
Needs to grow a pair. Good player but boring hair

Hargreaves:
Headless chicken unless you shout at him. German hair

Fletcher:
Shit apart from against good teams. Fergie's his Dad though

Anderson:
Ronaldinho my arse. Cool hair, I'm a bit jealous

i'm a little confused as to capello's neglect of carrick since he came in. i would have thought he would be right up an italians street and offers something different to the other england cms. yet despite being prominent in the united side that dominated domestic and european football he can't get a sniff for the national side

yeah, that's what I meant, an analysis by Scholes means nothing because he can't say what he might really think

Nothing new from Scholes. he has always been one of the most gracious and delightful player. He is one footballer who could be ideal role model for anyone who wants to be footballer.

When he hangs up his boot, it would be one of the sadest day @ OT. i have been fortunate to watch him play at his peak and in his early days.

Thank you scholes.

It depresses me that his career is coming to an end. He still has a lot to offer though and will be important for training our midfield of the future.

A good complimentary from our own Scholesy.

Hopefully that Anderson could learn many things from him.

Because that would be far from the truth.

Yes, and he has to hide the fact that he's a bitter, spiteful, selfish, nasty little man. What fools we have been to believe in that "quietly humble" rubbish all these years! Only after he leaves United will he be exposed for the vicious little cnut he really is.

But not really though.

Being a selfish cnut, I am actually glad Carrick doesn't get picked - keeps him fresh for us and no injuries.

Otherwise - I agree entirely.

This statement = spot on!!

Our midfield doesn't have all the biggest stars, but the way they all slot together nicely, with the many different combinations where each partner compliments the other, make us far more effective than a lot of people give credit for.

I would much rather have a combo of Carrick - Scholes, over Lampard - Ballack, simply because although the "sum of the individual parts" is higher for Chelsea, the effectiveness of UTD's is better.

To be fair Scholes is probably one of the least likely to engage in propoganda.

In the long run I believe Fletcher will be one of the most important players in the squad. Very loyal, good attitude and the fact that he's been here for his entire career is exactly what every club needs. The day Giggs, Gary and Scholes retire we will need players like Brown and Fletcher to carry the legacy on. I think it's great for boys out there to see these examples and take it to their hearts rather than 'other' players that move on after a while.

Exactly. I'm glad he mentioned Hargreaves' passing. Being a master of the art he is best placed to judge it.
