Thomas: Ronaldo is 'untouchable'

Former Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder Mickey Thomas is convinced Cristiano Ronaldo has a good few years of football at Old Trafford left in him.

Speculation has this week gathered pace that the Portuguese winger could be set for a move to Real Madrid, with the player himself claiming he will not decide where his future lies until after next week’s Champions League final.

Madrid have made no secret of their desire to bring Ronaldo to the Spanish capital, but Thomas sees no reason why the player or his current club would sanction such a deal under any circumstances.

“I think he’s got a few years left here at Old Trafford,” Thomas told Setanta Sports News. “He’s playing the best football of his career, 41 goals this season is a fantastic return.

“Real Madrid are apparently offering £100 million for him but I don’t think that buys his right leg, let alone his left leg.

“I think he’s untouchable and United don’t need to sell him – they’re the wealthiest club in the world and things are going from strength to strength.”

Two of Thomas’ old clubs go head-to-head in Moscow on Wednesday, and the Welshman feels a United double is in the offing.

“I think United are favourites after winning The Premiership,” he added. “Chelsea will be dejected and feeling a little bit sorry for themselves but they have to pick themselves up.

“Obviously it can go either way in a one-off game but if United get it right on the day I think they will just shade it.”

Ronaldo must remain with us. He is improving all the time and that is due to his training at Manchester United. A Spanish dream could very quickly turn into a nightmare.
