I think Poborsky gave up learning English when even the English lads in the squad couldn't understand Sir Alex's thck Scottish accent. Other than that Poborsky is a great cunning linguist.

Granted he's brave and keeps getting in their but he had an absolute nightmare, same with Gomez.

In the past we got poborsky, I think liverpool got berger and someone got Nedved....so you can easily get it wrong. When we were scouting barca youth, we picked up Pique. Now good player he maybe but Fabregas was in the same side and we failed to notice him

Sir Alex deserves his break.
That's right. We didn't notice him. Course we fucking noticed Fabregas. We didn't make a serious enough attempt to sign him so he went to Arsenal.

Today Wenger was at the Spain-Italy game and it has me slightly worried that
A) We have done nothing this transfer season. Infact, we moved backwards in losing Pique, losing out on Ramsey, and then all this Ronaldo bullshit.
B) Wenger is searching for his next prey but is very active and I think he will make a big signing, possibly villa.

So, what do you guys reckon. Are we missing out on a golden opportunity to sign players up? Have we been too quiet this transfer season?
Moving backwards because we didn't sign a prospect who is not an automatic choice in a side from a lower division, I dont think so

I am sure the club have a lot going on, we just don't know about it yet

Buying players based on Euro/WC performances is nearly always a huge mistake. As an indicator for function in a league clubs, it is nearly useless.

Fergie learnt this lesson in 96, buying Karel Poborsky (Best player in Euro 1996), Jordi Cruyff (One of the most promising players of the same championship), Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Ronny Johnsen (neither participated). Who panned out and who didn't.

He did have a blip though after WC 2002 with Kleberson. Not a good idea, though.

our squad is not in a desperate need for players like arsenal's thin squad is. flamini already left and hleb and adebayor are probably gonna quit on arsene too. if cnut leaves then we will have to break the bank other than that we dont really need to. ffs we have an elite bench already of giggs, anderson, nani, saha, silvestre, foster, etc.

honestly right now all we honestly need is decent cover in right back, so when vida or rio get injured we dont have to put hargo to fill in for brown/new rb. And all this we need a striker bs... we scored more than 100 fucking goals last season plus we won the cl and league, isnt that good enough for you doom/gloom - transfer muppets?

Also you forgot to mention that we bagged petrucci, which came from the roma youth system who have produced totti, de rossi, aquilani, etc.
We can't rely on Tevez and Rooney to be fit the whole season and play every game. With Rooney injured we were really dull in the beginning of the season. Idiot.

yes your right but i dont agree with him that fergie has to postpone his vacation and should rather bathe in the sun after the euros. And honestly I dont want us to get a big name striker unless Ronaldo leaves. If he stays we should get a "sub" striker. I dont want to see Carlitos in the bench, just like Rooney he is a striker that offers more than goals and he can link up superbly to affect overall team play. Carlitos and Rooney are in my opinion the most technically gifted strikers in the planet and they will also sacrifice for the cause. I would love to see nandito torres asked to defend like rooney and tevez where asked to. I bet he'd have a laugh and fail miserably.

So what happens if Rooney or Tevez pick up a serious injury then? A centre forward is top priority this summer. A new right back is a luxury.

Not exactly the same as watching live though is it? If you're trying to judge a player you need to see him for the whole 90 mins, not just the 5 mins or so the director chooses to show you. That's why I always laugh at Chief Two Teams for his views on the merits of a certain Mr Hargreaves - when he's never actually seen him play live.

However, that said, if United are interested in players at the tournament I'm sure they'll have scouts out there. I would hope our scouting network is good enough that we're not going to be surprised by any of these players - "Hmmmmm.... never heard of this Arse Shaving player. He looks a prospect...."

Absolutely. This is probably why there used to be such a huge divide in opinion regarding Michael Carrick. Where as he's bloody good anyway, he's a different player when watching from the stands.

Let's wait till the summer is over and then see what shape we're in.

I do think it's a bit weird that we haven't made any moves yet though. I thought it would have made sense to strike while the iron is hot after the champions league win but we seemed to have let the momentum from that dissipate a bit.

Im sure Fergie is aware of whats going on and has already got plans in place for potential signings. Hopefully by the end of the Euro's we will have started our dealings for real.

yeah i guess i didnt make myself clear. what I really meant to say is that there is no need to break the bank and bring in a 25-30m striker. Id rather buy a 10-15m target man, but not someone that we will sacrifice el apache for. Then the rest of the kitty should be used to sign teveth on a permanent and a quality back up rb (so when vida, rio or brown gets injured we dont have to shift hargo back to rb, he was clearly missed in midfield against barcelona in both games, nevertheless he did a superb job at right back). this is all if ronaldo stays next season though.

I really want to see whats up with manucho though. Fergies transfer record in the last 3 seasons has been marvelous. park, vidic, evra, carrick nani, anderson, hargreaves, tevez, if he signed manucho its for a reason. hope he gets the work permit. we definetly dont need a 25-30m striker though, only if ronaldo leaves would it be good to spend that amount of money on a striker.

Can't you imagine the media and agent frenzy if SAF was spotted at a Euro game? Who's he watching? Who's he gonna buy? Must be this one, no must be that one. Plus all the "Have you spoken to Ronaldo?" bollocks the press would throw at him. He'd be beseiged in his hotel and the speculation would go completely nuclear.

Our Great Leader is far too smart for that. I'm confident that before long some amazing signings will be announced, our strategy will be made clear and all nervous muppets will be able once again to have normal bowel movements instead of being constipated with fear or afflicted with diarrhea from panic.
