Standards being set a little too high?

I haven't been on the Caf a great deal lately, but the overriding feeling seems to be one of negativity. If people aren't moaning that we only just scraped past Hull, then they are having a dig about our perceived "defensive problems" etc etc.

Considering we are ahead of Arsenal and have the opportunity to well and truly knock the stuffing out of them next week, and are nicely posited in behind Chelsea and Liverpool (who have apparently both enjoyed flying starts to the season), we really should be rather delighted with how things are going.

If Liverpool and Chelsea can be considered to have had excellent form thus far this season, yet can have so regularly dropped points, then surely that augurs well for United, who many will agree, are nowhere near top form so far.

Much has been made about the difficulty of fixture list up until the turn of the year. Rightly so. We have already been away to Fratton Park, Anfield, Stamford Bridge, Ewood Park and Goodison. In the month of November, we travel to the Emirates, Villa Park and the CoM Stadium, with only the solace of Old Trafford with the visit of Stoke punctuating that killer run. In my estimation, if we can occupy the same position after our next four matches as we do now, then we have a terrific opportunity.

Not bad for a side whose keeper is past it, whose club captain is ravaged by injury and whose central midfield has been decimated by injury. Fergie will be having stern words this week. It is so often the United way to let things get to the stage where a rocket up the arse is needed. Watch the wins, goals and clean sheets begin to roll in...

Pssst, don't talk sense.
Looking around the Manchester United forum you could assume we're already out of the title race.

Nice to see a positive thread on here! It was a poxy start to the season fixturewise add our injuries at the time to that and I think we've done well.

Same attitude prevailed last season too.

Win our game in hand against Fulham and we're 2 points back. Ignore the result against Hull and the defense is even tighter than it was last year. Rooney seems to have rediscovered his shooting boots, and Ronaldo's recovery is progressing quite nicely, with back-to-back braces.

Doom.

Far too early for negativity.

Just compare our fixtures so far in relation to Chelsea's, then our points totals. Then look at our fixtures after midweek CL games, compared to Chelsea and Liverpool.

Consider that we are only 2pts behind if we win our game in hand

Can't be bad

we're victims of the success we've had. Victims the lot of us. Paddy said it best, we're spoiled.

It's down to the that thief at chelsea spending other peoples money and on the whole they spent it well. We saw arsenal raise the bar too. However our teams are doing better in Europe though not so much int he uefa cup but hopefully that will change.

We as a club have expanded but still play our way and still look to promote from within

We have recovered pretty well this season after our usual slow start. Whats more impressive is how tough our fixtures have been up to now. Anyway we have another big test coming up against Arsenal and they always give us a tough game. We have to do everything it takes to beat them because falling too far behind Chelsea would not be advisable.

Still ages to go in the competition, but this is typical, we had the same sort of reaction last year. I dont blame anyone, thats what happens when you are passionate about something... though maybe just 'winning' shouldnt be our only concern, we'r playing some good football thats nice to see

Some of us here are unbelievable. If somebody comes up, stating some flaws in our team that is apparent, very soon everybody would start labelling him as a "WUM", or " GO support CHelsea", or accuse him of being negative, unrealistic, expecting Manchester United to have a divine right to win, etc.... FFS, there are two sides of the coin. For every victory and defeat, there will be positives and negatives. If this forum is for only "positives or following the herd", then what differentiates us from a fucking cult, where all there are like impressionable followers without a mind of their own. LIGHTEN UP !!!!

It's not that. People are being negative when we're only five points off the top with our game in hand when we were without Rooney, Scholes, Carrick and Ronaldo for the start of the season. Then we've got people complaining about Berbatov even though he's doing well.

Unjustified complaining/negativity is just stupid for a club as successful as ours.

the sole reason is because we are behind liverpool and lost after having the lead at anfield.

if were in the same position now but liverpool were behind us, 90% of the negativity would not exist.

A lot of people in this forum are very narrow-minded especially towards constructive opinions that veer away from the general consensus. I've no problems when people highlight our flaws, mistakes and frustrations over certain unperforming players during certain games. I appreciated that a lot more than the likes of Jasonrh posting stupid namecallings, echoing every comments with no personal perspective or analytical opinions of his own. It's painful reading them, cos to me, its a lame attempt at translation into American sense of humour, which we all know isn't the brightest for somebody following Manchester United for only 3 years, and reads Wiki more than watching games. That to me is a waste of space in this forum.

Great post. We all commented on the fixtures at the start of the season, and how tough they were first half, because of the difficult away trips. You can't ask for much more than playing your title rivals at home towards the end of the season. So you're right, it's a case of positioning. If we stay in touch, we'd have an excellent chance of retaining our title again. And who could have believed that possibility going into 06/07

The idea of doing the league title hat-trick again makes me too giddy to even think about.

I still don't think we have seen a truly stellar United-type performance this season. One where we really put a team to the sword. We have really slipped under the radar in that respect. Obviously, Liverpool have started well and Chelsea have hit the net with great regularity. I just reckon we're one class performance away from seeing more positivity amongst the fans.

I have to say I don't really see this narrow-mindedness.

I do see a lot of negativity though, for a team 3 points behind the leaders.
