United DVD/MUTV Commentators

Finally got round to watching the Double Champions DVD and a quick question for those MUTV subscribers. Is the commentary for some of the games taken from the MUTV coverage? For games that weren't shown live I can see why it would be used, but why use it for the likes of Newcastle at OT, which was shown on Sky?

Wherever it comes from it's shocking awful stuff, generally involving the commentator shouting the name of the United player followed by "brilliant" (regardless of whether the finish is a miskick/deflection whatever). The low point (so far anyway, I'm only half way through) is when the "expert" commentator states of the 6th United goal vs Newcastle that whether it crossed the line or not is a "mute point". What the fuck is a "mute point"?

So any help on where this commentary comes from and who the numpties are would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think the Newcastle (h) match was on Sultana, not Sky, so that might be why it uses MUTV commentaries.

The bit I've highlighted does sound like it is MUTV.

Is it another Paul Doherty production?

I thought it was the BBC's commentary on those games. It certainly was for the Blackburn away game, as i have that MOTD recorded.

BBC put their commentary ontop of the highlight for match of the day.

I thought for MOTD the beeb had commentators at the ground commentating live (hence you get it if you're watching snide coverage at 3pm on a Sat).

GerryDaly might be right about the Newcastle game being Sultana. Perhaps MUFC don't have the rights for the commentary?

But I still need names and faces. Especially for "it's a mute point" blunder. I'm a pedantic man! And an angry one. Sort of a cross between Bamber Gascoigne and the Incredible Hulk.

I thought the season review was quite poorly made. Especially compared to our treble one

You were at both games when we won the Premiership and the Champions League, how can that be spoilt!

A 'moot' point is one which matters not; the officials' decision was that the ball crossed the line, therefore, whether or not the ball actually did cross the line is purely academic - the goal stands regardless, the point is moot.

If this really is the 'low-point' of the DVD, the review is hardly as scathing as was presumeably intended.

I assume ralphie is well aware of what a moot point is, and that his point is more that the commentator pronounces it as a 'mute' point rather than a 'moot' point.

I have to admit it is not the best work, The commentary is below averagae, The treble season was great. i thought they would make it better, with better set to tools they have got now.

Was disappointed, but still watched it about 8 times, watching 06-07 now.

Tyler's commentating in the Chelsea games are the worst i've ever heard. Almost criminally biased.

The only game on the review that has MUTV commentary was the League Cup game against Coventry. There were a few games covered by Setanta(without the Setanta commentary) that has commentary which i'm not sure where it came from, e.g. Sunderland home, Birmingham away, Newcastle home.

Ah right, thanks. Still in the dark about where the commentary comes from though.
