United Legends Semi-final - Team DanNistelrooy vs Team Cling Bak

This is a United Legends Fantasy competition, where voting is open to all Redcafe members other than the managers of the semi-finalist teams. Managers are required to assemble their squads of United Legends by selecting players who have made at least 100 post-WW2 appearances for United based on their performances for United and overall footballing impact/contributions to United. As in any team, team tactics and balance also play a part. Hence please carefully consider the abovesaid factors and evaluate the merits of both teams before voting for the team which in your opinion is the better United Legends team. Polls will last for 1 day. Thank you.

Gary Pallister - One of the best centre backs Fergie has had in his time at United. Quick, strong and can also play a bit.

Jaap Stam - Man mountain of a centre half and a key player in our most successful season ever.

Roger Byrne - Captain of the famous Busy Babes. 280 caps for United.

George Best - One of, if not the best player United have had. Magician

Paul Ince - Box to box midfielder who could do everything. Alongside Keane I would expect my midfield to win most battles

Roy Keane - Not much needed to be said about Keano. The most influential central midfielder during the club's most successful era. Not a lot that Keane couldn't do very well

Steve Coppell - One of the best right wingers United have had. 322 caps for United, helping United to an FA Cup and 2nd division title.

Mark Hughes - Over 450 caps and 160 goals for United. One of the key men to propel United back to Domestic dominance at the start of the Premiership era.

Denis Law - United's 2nd top scorer of all time, the King.

Subs:
David Gaskell - became the youngest player to ever play for United when he played in the 1956 Charity Shield at 16 years of age!

John O'shea - Mr Reliable/Versatile. Provider of some magic moments in his time at United in which he accumulated almost 400 appearances for United. Perfect man to be on the bench as he covers almost every position

Kevin Moran - Over 200 caps for United, 70 for Ireland and was also capable of chipping in at the other end. With 21 goals for United

Ray Wilkins - staying on his feet in midfield is Ray Wilkins. 160 caps for United and will be used off the bench to keep things ticking if we are ahead

Jesper Olsen - Providing the width on the left hand side is Jesper Olsen, with over 150 caps for United and 40 for his country.

Andrei Kanchelskis - Width on the right hand side comes from the pacey Kanchelskis. Superb player for United during the start of the Premiership and scorer of a famous hat-trick against City. His pace off the bench could be key.

Frank Stapleton - 60 goals for United in 260 caps, will be called upon if we need a goal.

Pretty close this, but Dan edges it for me. I'm not sure why Cling Bak has gone for Pegg on the right and Nani on the left, would've been better the other way around.

Both teams are very strong, Dan has the better goalkeeper, Cling Bak has the better back 4, Dan has the better midfield 4, very tight call in attack - Law & Hughes vs Ruud & Cantona, Cantona's magic being the tie-breaker for Cling Bak, overall very hard to separate the two teams

Can't call this one at all.

I'm inclined to go for Dan but it would be a disservice to some United greats in Cling Bak's midfield.

Fence. Sit.

Cling for me, only because I think Ruud and Eric will work better.

DanNistelroy just edges it in midfield and for that reason, he gets my vote.

What I find odd is that Cling has Nistelrooy in his team and Dan call Law 'the King'. There's been some mix up here.

Sure. In the same way Ronaldo would be. He chose City to begin with. Left them to play for a bigger club. Then after having played for us for a long time he joins City again. He even put the final nail in the coffin that was Manchester United's relegation.

Could you imagine what Manchester United fans would feel about him if he did that today? People hate on Ronaldo for leaving for Real but that's nothing compared to Law's career choices.

They put a statue featuring him outside Old Trafford and no one complained. No one ever will.

He gave ten years (or so) of service to the club, his best ones. Who cares where he played early on or in his twilight years?

How bizarre, never thought I would find a United fan holding a grudge against Law. If anything, his goal against us makes him more of a legend. You could see it was pure instinct and he was absolutely devastated the second after he puts that in the net.

I don't hold it against him. I'm just not a fan of two players having the same nickname. Never mind at the club. And Law's career only shows how huge hypocrites many football fans are.

I saw Eric play. To me he's the king. Might feel otherwise if I were Scottish.

Fair enough if Eric is your King.

Not sure about the hypocrites thing. Law gave us his best years. I didn't like Cole or Schmeichel (in particular) playing for City but it wore off very quickly.

It is very different if a player ditches you in his prime. I always hated Ronaldo's musing about only God knowing and all that but the way he conducted himself in not playing along with Real holding us to ransom made up for that.

Now the two Argie Judas... Tossers, can't stand the sight of them.

I don't think it's much different. But it's probably bad from a City fan's point of view. They bought him for a record fee only for him to want to go a bigger club.

I think it's hypocritical to be mad a Ronaldo. He was great for us but his intentions when he came here where pretty clear. He always favored Spain and we got 80 fucking million pounds for him.

Tevez I can't stand. Didn't like him whilst he was at the club either. Heinze. He didn't get any game time anymore. Got no beef with a player that wants to leave because he doesn't get to play regularly. Probably would have disliked him more had he gone to Liverpool. He gave us part of his best years as well. He peaked with us.

I only expect players to be loyal if they play here a long time or are home grown. Why should I expect more from anyone else? Just look at Rooney. Came here at 19 and on his 7th season he wants to leave. Now if he wants to leave then I don't expect much better from other players.

Sad when players like Evans then get stick for doing a job when his family moved to Manchester so a 10 year old Evans could play for United. When Giggs and Scholes quit we have him, Welbeck and Cleverley left.

Very close one, think I maybe just edged it in midfield. Good game Cling

Polaroid, What's the plan for the final? Are we taking a player off our semi finalists?

If we go by the OP in the draft thread, there is only the primary draft and the secondary draft ie no more adding of players after that.
However if you wish to amend the rule and allow both teams to take one player off our eliminated semi-final opponent, I am agreeable to it
