United risk of losing Ezekiel Fryers
United risk losing starlet | Manchester United News, Fixtures, Results, Transfers | Sky Sports
Sky Sports understands Manchester United starlet Ezekiel Fryers is stalling over a new deal at Old Trafford. The 19-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and as yet fresh terms have yet to be agreed. The news has alerted a host of clubs to Fryers' possible availability in the summer if he fails to agree a new contract. Fryers has come through the ranks at United and made his full debut in the first-team in the Carling Cup win over Leeds earlier this season. The versatile defender has gone on to make five further appearances this term and he is highly-regarded within the corridors of Old Trafford. United are keen to tie down Fryers to a new deal, but the defender is thought to have snubbed their initial offer as he holds out for a better contract. Talented defender Fryers, 19, is coming to the end of his current deal and could be snatched away in the summer for a small fee, with Tottenham leading the list of interested teams. |

Are we seeing more of these types of stories / situations now because of the Glazer policy of not sorting out contracts until they are in their final year? Or was it ever thus? I forget.

Re the Glazer policy, didn't Hernandez get a new contract with several years left to run on his existing one? |

I dont think there is anything to actually worry about here. Morrison was a special case. This will be far more straightforward and is more likely to be a journo making it sound interesting for the purposes of his story, than it actually being anything serious. The problem is the new policy of dealing with contracts at the last minute always gives everything a sense of urgency that it wouldnt have if done a year or so earlier. But this story would be consistent with something as mundane as: "Here Ezekiel, this is the contract we have had drawn up for you." "Looks good boss. Can I take it home and have a look at it and get back to you at the end of the week?" "Sure, no problem." That is stalling.
I am sure he will stay. |

I honestly don't even think he's that good. I also wonder why he's only regarded highly by people in the corridors. Do we employ people to stand around in the corridors and discuss the potential of players? Whispering forever in the shadows.

I would say no to that Hectic, if you would have asked me which defender out of the reserves and youth team will make it, I wouldn't have named Zeki from it. He hasn't really stood out for me on reserves and youth level, although has looked decent enough in his first team experiences.

He's been a steady performer at reserve, and youth levels. Not in the same league of Pogba, Morrison, Wooton, Cole, etc. Unless he's going to be of these late bloomers I can't see him being a mainstay of United's squad.
Most of these stories are planted by agents to attract interest from other clubs. United will pay him what they think he's worth and no more. If he's able to get a better deal elsewhere it's his prerogative. |

To be honest, I don't care. He has nowhere near the potential of Morrison or Pogba and he wouldn't have been anywhere near the first team if it wasn't for the injuries. If he leaves he will be average. If he stays he might be able to drag a career out through sheer force of will.
In summary, he can feck off |

The only difference in 2012 (or since the Glazers took over) is the fact that the media are now so desperate for any kind of story, the football overkill if you like. |

I think we're trying to be too clever in not offering contracts until the very last minute. It is rumoured that Petrucci's deal runs out in 5 months and he's our reserve captain. Hopefully he'll sign back up as he's starting to show signs of fulfilling that early potential, probably not too far off the first team.

Good prospect but anyone that doesnt want to be at the club should just fuck off.
Probably media rubbish anyway but im fed up of hearing all this crap about young players and money. Bring back the class of '92. |

As for Fryers - his agent simply trying to apply some pressure on United...not fussed. |

Pogue, its trying to be clever because its a money saving tactic, isnt it? You dont give someone a payrising new contract until you absolutely have to, hence saving the difference in the old salary and the new for a year or however long extra you leave it to renegotiate. That is presumably the reason the Glazers have made that decision.
They must have reasoned that we are basically the top of the pile in terms of football employers so players are unlikely to leave us if we want to keep them. That means we can afford to give them that extra bit of bargaining power that comes with negotiating so close to the expiration of the contract. Whether that reasoning is sound or not will be clearer in the fullness of time. |

Blackett and McGinty are just as good prospects as Fryers.

Frankly with someone like Fryers we should just say take what you're being offered or fuck off.
The strength in depth of the Fryers, Pogba, Tunnicliffe et al age group is probably causing us a ''problem'' because these will all be players demanding fairly significant salaries and the club obviously doesn't have unlimited resources with which to pay them. |

I am not that big on Fryers as a player anyway but I think that we will see more and more young players leaving our ranks under these circumstances. |
