Valencia our new no.7?

What are your thoughts?

I would rather see our biggest signing get the coveted number. Benzema would look good in 7 ala Eric Cantona.

He might grow into it(metaphorically speaking).

Just a thought though as i've been busy for the last couple of hours or so but has it been confirmed that he'll wear it? Or indeed has his signing been confirmed?

Nothing is official but with Real pulling out it's only us in for him.

We should give Valencia Fletcher's number 24 shirt, and give Fletcher Nani's number 17. Nani can have John O'Shea's number 22, and we can create a new number, '85' for John O'Shea. We could then swap Fletcher's new number17 for Valencia's number 24. This would allow Messi to have the number 7 shirt when we sign him.

I don't think he'll be given the number 7.

This certainly is going to one of the most timid signings in United history. I can just picture us unveiling him and patches of tumbleweed among the presentation scuttling across.

Apparently he's had a medical, but no-one bothered to check if it was him.

Doubt they'd give Valencia #7.

Lets give the No.7 to Park and mooch off the asian market. We'll be minting it.

Fair enough, it does appear to be a done deal.

On the No 7 issue. There have been a couple of players who although, may not be classed as legends, were good players worthy of the no 7; Coppell,Kanchelskis....anyone care to add any more

Let's buy Altidore or Dempsey and mooch off the US market. More official merchandise will be sold there!

I can't remember there being this much sobbing and ruined diapers when we bought Yorke or Sheringham (there was quite a lot when we bough Carrick though).

He's a right winger. He's the first player we'll sign (probably) after Ronaldo left, leaving the typical right winger no 7 jersey open. It would surprise me a great deal if it wasn't given to him, and the signal that would send would probably not be one he'd like..

"Oh, we want you to play for us but we don't think you'll ever be good enough to wear the no 7, even though it's free and usually used by players in your position. We feel you're more a no '74' type of player"

There was a 3rd club, thought to be Bayern, in the race when Whelan last spoke.

I'm hoping he doesn't get the number 7 personally.

I don't think he'll get the number 7.

I already feel sorry for the lad with the amount of pressure he'll be under the please the transfer fucknuts, imagine having the extra weight of that shirt to live up to as well.

Were not asking for much. Only to give a 100% and have a hat-trick debut is the minimal. Anything less.....the pitchforks will be out.

I really feel that Rooney should have the number 7 unless we sign someone else a bit special. I think Valencia will be a fantastic player for us but he isn't a special player. He'll be an Essien-like powerhouse and hopefully have a similar impact to Kanchelskis on the right but the number 7 should be a special individual who embodies the ethos of the club, flair, passion and commitment. That's Rooney in my book.

To be honest I'd say Rooney is happy with Denis' number 10 shirt.

Benzema will have to be 9 because I've already bought my home shirt with his name and that number on

For similar reasons Aguerro really needs to be number 7

So no, Valencia can't be number 7

Can someone make this clear to the club?

Neither do I remember this much whinging when, only 6 years ago, we gave our prestigious No7 shirt to an entirely unproven 17 year-old show pony with a dodgy hair-cut.

Why would you do that with a player we haven't even signed yet?
With a player who has publically stated that he would prefer a move to Real Madrid than Manchester United?
