Valencia today

Continues to disappoint in big matches I'm sorry to observe.

I hope I'm proved wrong and he starts to really impose himself on these matches given that he's picked ahead of Nani who's the regualr whipping boy.

this isn't to say he's crap/shite/we should sell him. However the usual excuse that's trotted out is that, "he's young", "he needs experience" etc. To me it's a case of mentality. When I see a player like Obertan at least have a go a the defenders I have to question Valencia's self-belief. He had the beating of Terry and after he was denied a clear penalty should have got at Terry again and again.Instead he did the comfortable job of tracking back and denying Cole space;very commendable but when given the chance to attack there was no urgency until the end.

I don't know the answer but for the sake of the team I hope he starts to do something other than look "OK" against poor sides.

Come on lad!

I disagree. I thought he was one of our best players today.

Easily his least-frustrating performance for us and he kept Cashley quiet all match.

Was impressed with him today.

Are you for real?

He was good today and was probably our best player in the Liverpool defeat.

I didnt think he was that bad today.

It's the unreasonable expectation for him to conjure something magical like Ronaldo or Messi that does not measure him up.

Otherwise he's probably up there with the best today.

Football 365 have said after today that he's a flop. Ashley Cole didn't get in the game today. Valencia did okay.

He kept Ashley Cole out of the game, and offered something in attack. He did exactly what he was meant to do. He was one of our best players against Liverpool too, so two good performances in the big games.

OP, you're a complete tool.

He has done a good job working hard but his final ball has been absolute rubbish in both big games.

Get a fucking grip, will you? He kept the most in form left back in the world quiet. All game. Ronaldo frequently went missing against Cashley in his later years. He was an alright player, wasn't he?

Well as I said keeping the Fullback quiet was the job he did well but when did he actually threaten the defenders? He even missed a gily edged chance to hit the target from 10 yards and nearly hit the corner flag.He needs to get out of the comfort zone. No doubt SAF will encourage him to keep pressing forward but that's good man-management.

I hope i'm proved wrong big time, believe me. I want players to play well for the good of the team not because of a personality thing...mind I like Valencia and will be thrilled if at the end of the season we're all here with the verdict that he's been a success

Bad error of judgment.

Valencia today was like Park in a big game, but also with a bit of attacking quality. After today I now have a lot more confidence in him than I did before

Thought he was fantastic myself....not very often Cashley gets totaly owend for 90 minutes and today he was....Valencia did today what we used to have Park doing in similiar matches before but Valencia has an added attacking threat and pace to him that Park simply dosnt..

He was fantastic in the role he was asked to play today...your clearly as blind as a man with a face full of spunk.

He played well today, not great but well. He's been one of our most consistent players this season. I don't know why people are picking on Valencia when Giggs was far more ineffective.

I would have said that was Evra myself. I though Valencia's job is to produce at both ends of the pitch. But heck what do I know. I've only been watching Utd for over.... well, I won't say how long.

The assertion that Ronaldo went missing against Cole is rather laughable.Ronaldo played when nothing but raw winger and Chelsea were dominant. Cole at that time was the best LB in the world. This season he's been exposed a few times and is several years older.

Thought he done quite well myself.. so quite surprised about the OP. He showed good strength on the ball, on occasion his one-footedness in defensive areas left us in danger but all in all I thought he was a good outlet.

Giggs for all the criticism levelled at him is in his late 30's and to my mind has never hid in a game of this stature from his debut onwards.

I hope you realise that you're comparing a winger past his prime to a young player who should be showing absolutely no fear

Most in-form left back in the world. I never said best, just to be clear.

I'm not going to agree with you just because you're old(er). You could just as easily have been wrong for all of those years.

.. well not really, as most of their attacks came from the right! Due to giggsy not being able to track Ivanovic.

I'd say that Valencia was as good as he was bad. He kept Cashley quiet, but he didn't really do much with the ball either. Certainly not his best game.

He needs to learn to shoot more when he cuts inside (like Ronaldo, not that I'm particularly comparing the two).

Otherwise I've got no problems.

valencia is mechanical in his play. superb strength, great athletic ability, but that footballing nous/inventiveness that separates the stars from the workers is missing. he is a good winger, but not a Manchester United-level first XI winger long term IMO.

Well he wasnt the worst Man Utd player on the day. That was Ryan Giggs im afraid.

Valencia did a good job overall from the right wing. Ashley Cole rarely ventured into our half and he was up against a physical battle all game. Valencia made a few crosses of varying accuracy but was always available for runs into space. Terry was lucky not to concede a foul on him in the box. He was solid yet unspectacular but probably performed according to our game plan.

I've frequently been wrong mate with my years of experience . It's the case that I'm prepared to admit it. Are you right all the time?

PS: I don't belive I was asking to be agreed with simply because I'm older. Age really has nothing to do with having an observation or opinion either way does it?

Where did he show any fear? He was willing to take a shot on, tried to be creative, got stuck in etc. Cole and Lampard got to him very quickly and he had little space to work in, which showed how much respect they had for him.

I made the comparison as people seem to pick on the same players when we have a bad result irregardless of how they have actually played.
