One good dump & he`ll be back to full fitness. Maradonna didn`t exactly have the body of a gay underpants model but he certainly knew how to kick a football.

If Ronaldo does go, Rooney will be more focused on his own game & I think he`ll be in line for World player come next May.

Right. Conceivably, Wayne couldn't really get a more ideal opponent than Newcastle for the opening day. He scores bucket loads against them and they are not exactly looking like the most water tight of opposition this time round.

We all know that he is a striker that scores in patches and appears at times to go through crises of goalscoring confidence, so top of every United fans wishlist for today should be a Rooney goal.

Please God, let this be the season that Wazza shows everyone what he is well and truly capable of. He deserves better than being mentioned as a footnote to the exploits of Ronaldo!

If he can finally avoid any freak bone spurs or something similar, I don't see any reason why not. SAF said he will make sure to play Rooney in a role more comfortable and natural to him so I don't see why he couldn't have a monster year. His skills and effort level are very obvious.

Totally agree, although I have learned that it is very dangerous to talk about Wayne steering clear of injury! Best not tempt fate.

On a serious note, he got off to a flier against Fulham two years ago and then was disrupted for a three match ban and it took him a while to sort his form out. If he gets a good start today, we need him to have a proper run in the side, in his proper position. I can't remember seeing Wayne have a consistent run through a whole season since he joined United.

More than Rooney, I reckon its Tevez would dominate over Rooney and Ronaldo.

He normally enters a club in the last minute, carrying some baggage and criticism on the manner he would fit in to the playing XI and he finally ends up winning he best player at the club, best in the league etc....like in Boca, Corinthinan and West Ham

He has done very well so far today. Was excellent for the first 20 mins, not quite so good for the rest of the half, hopefully in the second he can pop up with a goal

He works FAR too hard! Almost every time he picked up the ball in the second half he was inside his own half. Because of his workrate he tires - then lacks sharpness around the box late on and then gets frustrated and booked. He needs to be told to be more selfish. That's the main difference between the teenage Wayne and today, back then he stayed up top or close to it and didn't spend half his time in his own third of the field.

No don't get me wrong Rooney did have a bad game. But like crappy said I believe he buckled under pressure of being the main source of creativity for us. Scholes did have a bad game for us and Fletcher isn't that good on the right.

Scholes had a poor game by his standards and gave away the ball in dangerous circumstances. One of them almost led to a goal but for the excellent defending by Vida

I thought his control was fine today, like the rest of team it was all good up to the edge of the area at which point that lack of width and presence upfront told.

He looked lost in the second half and circulated btween being a front man, a deep striker or on the wing. Just tried to do too much by himself, as I said probably realised that it was upto him to create a chance or score a goal.
