I think it is a fair comparison in terms of how their talent when they initially burst on the scene has/had altered with time in the game... and disputably not for the better

Both Fowler and Owen were great talents but they somehow never full filled their potential. Comparisons with Rooney are pointless but if you are suggesting that they were average players, then you are the spacktard.

It better be Rooney's year because we not buying a striker.

Fergie just said on his post match interview.

Despite the absence of attacking potency, Ferguson refused to comment on the speculation that Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov is close to a move to Old Trafford.

He added: "Carlos Tevez will be back for Portsmouth, and Wayne Rooney is getting his fitness back.

"I am not discussing anyone else - I think we have a good squad, and that will be my strike force."

Someone related to Tevez kicked the can. I stated this fact in the "48 hours later" thread... it was a surprise... of sorts.

How the feck did I suggest they were average players?

We all know they have lost the plot NOW. To suggest Rooney is in the same boat is a joke.

Spacktard.

- Opening day.
- Rustiness.
- Big players - Anderson, Nani, Ronaldo, Hargreaves, Teveth - out injured.
-Wayne lacking a bit of sharpness.

Yet you feel the need to make overblown statments intimating that Wazza is not going to "be the same player". Only on the fucking Caf.

That really doesn't have anything to do with what he said about Rooney.

The first of those seasons he was our joint top scorer, but ok.
The second of which he was involved in 40 of our goals in terms of goals scored and assisted.

You say it as though it is negative. After today, I class that as knee jerk.

The boy is class. Give him a chance.

i am disappointed about the way he has developed... things have come on nicely but other things have been lost... so thats why it may appear appear negative... but its an observation which i think is fair though.

I always will give wayne a chance he is my favorite player, i love rooney, so its not an issue about me not liking him, in my eyes he can do no wrong even when i know he has... im just commenting on his style of play and how it has chaned.. and how i shouldnt hope for something which i dont think will happen again and that is seeing the 'old' rooney.

If I wish hard enough he will

Everything was better back in t'day.

Everyone who raves about Rooney's first season at the club forgets that, after his stunning debut, he looked like he couldn't trap a bag of cement for the next 10 games.

He has been continually improving throughout his time at the club. The objective evidence of this is his constantly improving haul of goals (per game that is) He has had only one truly excepetional season though, that was when he stayed fit from start to finish. Coincidence?

im not saying in ways he hasnt improved, but im pointing out the difference in playing styles and how he has lost things which he previously excelled at... pogue i see you as a sensile poster, im sure you can see that he has declined in the areas of his game which made him famous.. long range shooting... ability to dribble with power and accuracy? his goal tally has increased each season i give you that, apart from last

When he's on form every aspect of his game is sensational. When he's not on form it's not.

Unfortunately, last season he didn't achieve or maintain a decent run of form.

I actually think he looked very sharp in the first 20 minutes today, until his legs went. I fully expect him to tear Pompey a new one.

*1.

No bones of the past, no promise of the future...

Rooney played utter shit on all accounts, every corner of the pitch....

*If he exceeds 15 of these by the winter break, we know where he stands.

Did you watch the game?

Tough shit!

It's the last 60 minutes that count.

The '#1.' stays!

(almost forgot the wink... a tradition from the first few years of the redcafe creation. Say whatever crazy shit, as long as you include a wink at the end)
