Wayne Rooney: I'm going nowhere
Wayne Rooney insisted he wanted to remain at Manchester United for "a long time" after scoring twice in a thrilling 3-2 FA Cup win at Manchester City.
Rooney scored either side of a Danny Welbeck strike as United led 3-0 at half-time, City having had captain Vincent Kompany sent off. But the 10 men came back strongly after the break with Aleksandar Kolarov and Sergio Aguero on target and had United hanging on at the end. Rooney's future has been the subject of speculation and he made a point of clutching the United badge after scoring his first. Asked if he had a point to prove today, Rooney told ITV: "No, not at all. Everything that has been in the press of late is a load of nonsense really. "There is no problem for me at this club, I want to be at this club for a long time." Paul Scholes came out of retirement and was named on the bench, coming on in the second half. And Rooney admitted the United players did not know about the situation until they got into the dressing room before the game. "It was a bit of a shock to be honest, we didn't know until we were in the dressing room, but he's a great player," he said. On the game, Rooney said: "We knew it was going to be difficult today, going 3-0 up we maybe took our foot off the gas a bit. "City got two goals and we had to make sure we saw the game out and thankfully we managed to do that." United boss Sir Alex Ferguson claimed he had no problem with Rooney and warned the striker he had to learn to get used to negative headlines. He told ITV: "There's absolutely no problem with Wayne what Wayne has got to realise is the press have got another (Paul) Gascoigne and he's got to suffer with that." Ferguson insisted Kompany's red card for a two-footed tackle on Nani, in which he won the ball, was the right decision. "I think so, I've seen him do it before, he maybe got off in the past," added the United boss. "I think if he catches Nani then he's got a problem." Ferguson was unhappy with his team's second-half display. "I think we made them better than they were," he said. "We were just so careless in the second half "At 3-0 up at half-time they thought they were through and took their foot off the peddle. "It was a careless performance, we should have been home and dry." City boss Roberto Mancini appeared clearly unhappy with Chris Foy's decision to dismiss Kompany. Asked what he thought of the red card, he shrugged before eventually saying: "It's best that we talk about the game and not the referee." But he was pleased with the way his side battled back in the second half. He added on ITV: "I am happy because I think we played a fantastic performance, the players did well in the second half. "We scored two times, we had other chances to score in the end and we didn't concede any chances for them to score." The current leaks about Rooney being forced out haven't come from Rooney's camp. If Sir Alex decides it is time to get rid and there is a suitable bid on the table from an appropriate club then he'll be off, whether Wayne likes it or not.

the early goal aside, we were in control and one error leads to their second. i don't think we did much wrong second half. If we'd have stayed away, we might have got more goals but when Nani went off, I think at 1-3 it was a sign of us wanting to keep the ball and wear them out. Good performance from Wayne, and we're in the next round now

Not that I think Rooney is going anywhere. But Rooney or SAF coming out and telling the press he is going nowhere proves nothing. If the final details of a move to Madrid were being thrashed out behind the scenes, both would still be telling journalists he was going nowhere. That is how it works.

He'll leave eventually. I think he'll be here till he's around 30, where he'll possibly go down the MLS route.
Not worried at all about losing him currently, I think he knows what is what after last years silly buggers. Needs to listen to Fergie's advice and ignore the media. |

Oh good!! A player stating that he is staying, a sure sign that we have nothing to worry about.

Oh please, we're not going to have yet another 'will he-won't he' saga like the whole Ronaldo fiasco.
I'm not going to look at this in any detail at all until something is confirmed, if you read everything the press say you'll go a bit mad. Big yawn. |

Him and Rooney are perhaps similarly inconsistent, whilst also being similarly productive. |
