I agree with the shit hoofing but besides that we were good today. Hoofing only works with a real target ala Saha,Berbatov,Adebayor

Capello was probably thinking "if only England could play like that".

2nd half was just brilliant. We played some unbelievably good possession football, although without much penetration. Very happy to see Rooney playing through the middle again, and Scholesy was quality yet again. But yep, we should've been 2-0 no thanks to the lino and should've had a pen when Rooney was fouled in the box. Pompey really had no idea what to do in the 2nd half.

Excellent possession, but rooneys way of dropping back, along with tevez leads to poor penetration..

If only we had a holding striker or a man who is an out and out striker....

The hoofing towards Rooney was productive I thought. A little more accuracy and Rooney would have the chances himself. But, what the hoofing did was that it meant that Portsmouth central defence was left deep all the time, allowing the space for the likes of Tevez, Fletcher, Evra, Anderson, Scholes to thread nice passes around the Portsmouth half...

Rooney is a tad lacking sharpness... Unlucky he did not score!

Well done today lads.
I think your wrong about the "grinding out result" thingy. Grinding out a result mean getting a draw or a win when the performance of the team did not not merit such results. When teams play poorly they are still able to get a positive result and such matches usually finish with the narrowest of margins.

the scoreline yesterday would have made a few to think that it was a grind out and also the manner of the sloppy goal. but make not mistake, the result was fully deserving of the performance.

hey at the end of the day, win big, win small, win ugly, win with style, 3 points are still 3 points.

After the corresponding fixture last year we'd played 2, drew 2, had lost Rooney with a broken foot, Ronaldo was sent off and facing a 3 game ban, and people we're writing us off.

I think the difference this year is all to see from last year. It actually looks like this team is playing with confidence, like a team that's just won the European Cup. Whilst it's early days yet, this team is going to progress, much like the team of 99 did playing with a swagger of being able to almost dominate at home. I don't think we'll see a repeat of a 18 point or what ever it was gap at the top of the table again, but this team is so full of confidence to play and win games like last night 1-0, that even last year they wouldn't have done.

I'm more than happy to see us win all our games 1-0 if we play like that all year. It may not help the goal difference, but if we win 37 games, I'm sure we'll be champions again.

Thank god we have Scholes, without him it would have been very difficult! Does a lot of work in midfield and with his passing game we were able to control the game. I just love Tevez going for every ball, him and Rooney will only get better!

But they'll be broken up by Berbatov unfortunately. I really hope it won't hurt their strike partnership that they'll have to share the minutes with Berbatov. I've not been so excited about our strike partnership since the glory days of Yorke and Cole

Even though we only got the 1 goal, we had them all over.

For 90% of the second half they couldn't touch the ball.
