People tend to look back a bit too fondly when Ronaldo was here, we absolutely destroyed the league in 06/07 and half of 07/08. We may have won the league the last two seasons but as far as I remember we were far from convincing.

Such a player would be useless with the wingers we now have. Of this I have no doubt.

Furthermore the Wigan side you are dissing as mere boys whipped Chelsea 3-1. On a ground at which we hammered them by 5 goals to zilch. All because of one small detail. Width. Without it's next to impossible to play speedy football for there are less outlets to use to speed up play.
we are talking about the same fooking Wigan which got beaten by Spurs. more there were fooking raped by fooking Spurs.

but we could grind it out, or turn draw/loses into wins...we had the x-factor...
right now we're losing to the likes of Villa, Fulham, Burnley, etc AND not are far from convincing

you don't get my point, do you?

Wigan are currently on the 16th spot. They twated Chelsea in between getting twated by Arsenal and almighty Hull. Get a grip man- good result against a wank team means fuck all to me. Yeah it was a nice game to watch, a great result to get but drawing any conclusions from that one game is bit risky.

Edit: Wigan has the weakest defence in the league. they have conceded 44 goals so far.

Width my are

You don't get mine either. That same side beat Chelsea comfortably when Chelsea where in good form. So there aren't as shit as you'd like everyone to think.

You get a grip. Wigan are not as wank as you want everyone to believe. Neither are they the only reason I keep referring to United and it's width.

Width my arse
Listen, I don't give a flying heap of dung how many they have conceded. I know better to trust what my eyes have seen than to go by useless stats. United have only played with proper width in games vs Spurs (away), Wigan (home and Away) and vs Man City(home). It's not a coincedence that in those game we played our best attacking football though out the 90 minutes.

In other games like the West Ham and Pompey one we may have scored at least 3 times on both occasions, we were hardly as fluid.

If you don't want to believe that's your own problem. Just perish the thought that Wigan are the only reason I keep referring to width.

On a sidenote I just watched the 2008 Champions League final again and that particular side was absolutely brilliant.
Fantastic back four with Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra, an exceptional midfield consisting of Hargreaves, Carrick, Scholes and the best player in the world in Ronaldo and Rooney/Tevez upfront who just had that bit extra class when the going got tough. We absolutely battered Chelsea in the first half, cracking performance that was (we got a bit lucky in the second half and in the penalty shoot-out though )

And I agree about 2008 too.

Rubber-man is correct. Angry but correct.

All the games he mentioned featured a left-winger putting in a top class performance. Usually Giggs but also one very good performance each from Park and Nani (Wigan, home and away)

In the West Ham and Pompey games we did lack width but Giggsy played really well and we managed to do enough to win, without hitting the heights of the other games mentioned. Left wing aside, Valencia has grow in confidence and become more and more of an attacking threat. However, earlier in the season he took a while to settle and tended to play it safe, which took away some threat from our right wing too. All of which means the service from the wings has been poor in the majority of games this season.

Personally, I think we also have been hampered by Carrick's poor form, then subsequent withdrawal into defence (as well as Fletcher being played at RB/CB too) which meant our central midfield has also been generally well below par.

At the end of the day, for 442 to function properly - especially against decent opponents - you need two quality wingers putting in decent performances and two competent, well-rounded central midfielders. This has happened very rarely but when it did, we've looked a completely decent side. Sure it was "only Wigan" but we would have humped any team in the league with the performance we put on that day.

If Carrick and Fletcher can get a run of games and either Park maintains the form he showed against Wigan or Nani/Obertan improve massively then we'll be right up there at the end of the season. If not, we're relying on Giggs to play a lot of football without any dips in form. Which is unlikely and means we almost certainly won't win the league.
