Doesn't the thread just say "player" rather than "signing"? In my book if you play for the first team, you can be regarded as a player.

No way Forlan is in the top 5 worst. He wasn't THAT expensive at 7.5M and scored some real crackers, usually when it mattered and earned us points, rather than the 4th or 5th in a big win. IIRC it was about 13 points which were 100% down to Forlan goals that season (i.e. winners or drawing the game), not great but the difference between being champions or not. I couldn't give a fuck about strikers who score when it's all jolly good.

Sure, he didn't have the impact he's had elsewhere, but you can't have him down as one of the 5 WORST PLAYERS. Jim Pakistan was useless, Miller was invisible, Taibi was a joke, Ricardo was a liability and Kleberson baffled you, just to name a few which were far worse. When you consider it is worst EVER there's no fucking chance.

I know putting the boot into Berbatov is all the rage right now but anyone who thinks he's one of the worst 5 players ever to play for United is a retard.

A list of the 5 worst signings however, would be a different story, if only because of the absurd fee we paid for him. Mind you, there's another current member of our first-team squad who's been even worse value for money. He's got curly hair.

Hargreaves' goal against Arsenal and penalty in Moscow on their own make him better value for money than Berbatov!

None of those players are as bad as Dong. Barthez was better than Gary Walsh, Mark Bosnich (should I mention - Ben Foster ).

IMO Dong was the only "player" (in his case the term must be used loosely) in Fergie's era who goes down among our five worst.

Showing my age here, but other candidates would be: Ian Ure, Tommy O'Neill, Carlo Sartori, Alan Gowling, David McCreery, Ashley Grimes.

You do realise that top post you quoted is 6 years old and he didn't specify which of the (pre-Darron) Gibsons he was refering to.

Cant look past the signings that summer that brought Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson & Bellion to the club

Cant think of 3 worst signings to be honest, proved really by the fact that none of them have gone on to do anything with their careers following their Old Trafford exit - makes you wonder what the hell we ever saw in any of them (albeit Kleberson did show the odd bit of something here and there)

Which one do you think it is?

Because either Colin or Terry Gibson would be a fair choice.

I may be being a bit harsh with Donaghy, but the only thing I think of with him was an own goal he conceded at home that helped cos us a title. Can't remember the opponents.

Terry Cooke? He had the makings of a very good player until his injuries. Had an excellent debut too.

It was Chelsea 1992 and I think Gary Walsh was as much at fault.

Didn't he get a goal in a league cup tie soon after as well?

Looked to be a superb player before the injury. Same could be said of Ben Thornley.

Anyway...

Milne
Taibi
Dong
Donaghy
Bellion

Anyone who includes Veron in their list, and Blanc for that matter, need to take a long look at themselves!

He made 2 promising games (first two) to be fair, but after that he was a bitter, bitter disappointment. Never liked him as a player, always seemed like he passed/shoot more with his shins rather with his boots.
Released by almost everybody later on and now he plays like where in the USA?

Very harsh to say that a promising but unlucky player like Cooke was one of the worst United players ever though. He was better than most of his peers: Thornley, Appleton, McGibbon, Casper, Clegg, O'Kane, Wallwork etc.

Chadwick too, I feel you are harsh on. Were these two really as bad as Dong for example?

People who either cost to much compared to doing nothing and no return fee to boost or were rubbish and no reason for buying.

I'm only 26 so these are the ones I can remember from my time watching United. Mainly 90's As my memory of the late 80's is a little patchy. Could probably come up with a better list if I could be arsed
Good god. And I doubt even if you could be arsed, you couldn't do a better list.

Did Dong pass me by a bit? From memory he played once for us?! His debut (only appearance?) being the game at Stamford Bridge in May 2007? Where, admittedly he was shit, but that was three years after this post. How has he decided Dong is one of the worst players to play for United at that point?

Oh right, seems I was wrong. You don't have to have played to be included in this thread. Predictions will do. And what a prediction at that.

Just shows how the current hyperbole will take over as well. I wonder how many would name Forlan in their top 5 these days...

Well, Dong's value was all market value. And Chadwick in paarticular I think he was pretty shite, Dong like. I forgot about Clegg tho, He should be there.

Ben Thornley was tipped for bright future as Cooke but he turned you to be as shit as him and fell off the radar soon. Those you metioned should e there as well(but Wallwork who I think was ok) I guess it's about personal preference.
