Playin football after a nights boozin
Anyone any tips for how you can make the experience as painless as possible?
Have a work xmas party tonight followed by a cup quarter final tomorrow afternoon. Wanna have as much alcohol tonight as i can get away with, havn't been out in weeks and its the first staff do in 3 years. Better to drink beer or spirits? What about the hangover food in the mornin? |

I played a match after my girlfriends 21st, and had a field of beer tht night and well into the morning.....I have never shined so many balls in my life. the ball bobbled all over the place, and I couldnt get my body to react in time, I was hauled off at HT.
Cup QF though, jaysus that is some game to be hungover as fuck at. What time is KO? Fuck the food, it will only come back up. Get loads of fluid into ya, drink shitloads of water and if possible go for a jog early to sweat it out of you. |

Spirits are dodgey as boys being boys, you'll end up knocking them back quicker that a pint. I find if I stick to pints and have a bit of finger food during a party or whatever I'd be ok the next day, if I went on spirts I'd be a write-off.

Aye thats what i'm thinkin although you'd think you'd be less sluggish after a few spirits than a few pints. I'd love to know the science behind it all, a lot of it might be just psychological

Nah, go for spirits. Beer just make you bloaty as fuck, and makes you feel shite the next day. Spirits are easier to drink too, which is a good because they don't leave you feeling like shit, but also a very, very bad thing because if you get to a certain level of drunkness, you'll be knocking them back. If you keep thinking that you have a match the next day, you should be grand.
This may or may not work. |

Stick to one type of spirit, have the odd pint of water in between every 3 or 4 drinks just to help you out the next day, make sure you have at least a pint of water before sleep, and take another one with you. Then have as much water as possible the next morning, if you're a member of a gym go and sit in the steam room for half an hour, make sure you eat something light for energy and off you go. Sometimes I worry so much about being hung over that I actually end up playing better. Good luck.

Basically what Jonno said but also try and get as much sleep as possible. Leave yourself just enough time to do whatever you need to do before the match. Eat some energy bars or something as well, there's no point playing on an empty stomach

Some friends I know actually play better when they have been out the night before. I was as well two weeks ago - only drank beer - went to bed at 4AM and the game was at 3PM. Still felt it when we met up for the pre-match talk but it went fine, played well and we won 4-0.
If you're planning on drinking vodka and whatnot, then perhaps have a glass of water every hour (but who actually does that during a piss-up?) or, better actually, drink a 1.5 ltr bottle of water in the morning and have a walk outside before you meet up. Chocolate is a good way to lighten your hangover in the morning, so I've heard. |

I did this regularly for years. Out with the lads every Sat night and up for Sunday Leage the next morning. I used to be able to just shake it off with a brew, banana and some fresh air up until I was about 25. It all went down hill from there. A hangover takes me out for a whole day now.

I played whilst still a bit merry once and scored a goal. I also played hung over once and kept having to run to the sideline to puke up. It's a dangerous tightrope, but experience tells me that you should try and stay slightly tipsy.

I've played semi-drunk before after a long night out. It was decent and generally I was amazing, except the hangover kicked in by the penalty shootout and things went a bit downhill. Also I accidentally dislocated a bloke's shoulder and tried to claim he dived... Spent a lot of the match shouting in an unusually high-pitched voice.
Anyway, drink water when you get in. |

Nah no puke, have never been sick the next day after a session, only at the time.
No plans to go through that again anytime soon, bit of a one off with havin the work party. It's not worth it at all. Can't enjoy a night out when you're holdin back and can't enjoy the football when you're hungover |
