Start Muay Thai training camp Monday for 2-3 months. What can I achieve? (Pics)
Hi all,
I know from reading previous threads that there are a lot of people on the caf that workout and have an interest in health and fitness etc... Some in Muay Thai also. Anyways, I am checking into tigermuaythai.com on Monday to begin training to lose my gut and get in better shape. I've spent the past four months traveling around SE Asia drinking lots everyday and I want to get rid of the added pad! I wanted to know what from sort of improvement in my physique I should be aiming for and what I can realistically expect to achieve. I am, like most, looking to drop some fat and tone up a little. I would love your thoughts on this please! Few stats to help - I am 25 in one month Weigh around 11 3/4 stone 5' 9" height I guesstimate around 22-23% body fat Some pics of me topless lol... http://i.imgur.com/96sQ7.jpg http://i.imgur.com/al101.jpg http://i.imgur.com/AdqbI.jpg http://i.imgur.com/xuPbJ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/hCIFe.jpg I will be training 5 days per week for 2 or, if necessary, 3 months (any thoughts on timescale please?) Training will be 1 hour fitness/cardio fat burning type class 7-8am 1 1/2 hours Muay Thai training and technique Then, after a week or two I may start doing the afternoon class as well which is boxing, Muay Thai 2 hours. I may also do weight training for an 50 mins X 3 sessions a week beginning in the second or third week (depending on how sore I am lol) Am I correct that a reasonable amount of weight to lose per week is around 1 1/2 pounds? Also, a reasonable amount of muscle growth is 2 pounds per month? (not so sure about the later?) Anyways, thanks for any comments/help/info/tips/piss taking... Cheers |

I went to Rawai Muay Thai for about 2 and half a weeks and noticed a big difference. Didn't weigh myself but I dropped a clothes size and noticed my muscles were more toned. Also in the heat I was eating less, and rarely drinking. If I had to guess I'd say I lost maybe half a stone?
In 2-3 months you should see a huge difference. |

You got pics of the accommodation? Like Cassius said you won't put tonnes of muscle on in that short a time frame, but you will certainly lose quite a bit of weight and tone up.
Just checked their website out, £553 for 3 months of training? That's pretty nice. |

What is your BF% at the moment? I can't click pics of topless men while I'm at work.
I'd love to do something like this, can't really see how it would be possible though with home plus bills to pay for but the concept certainly is nice. |

Depends too be honest. It's also down to genes. You can usually see 1-2% a month loss in BF with a very good regime starting from where you are now, so if you did the full 3 months 6-9% is achievable I would say. Bearing in mind the situation in that Muay Thai camp looks ideal. It's far out and isolated, there are no distractions in the way of partying, stuffing your face, you can just eat the right foods and train hard every day if you hit the weights gym, and do all the classes.
Take your own protein supplements to last, they are massively massively overpriced out there. |

You'd have issues bringing in protein supplements. Much easier just to get them from natural sources such as chicken, eggs which are abundant and cheap over there.
Last I heard protein powder was banned while steroids are semi-legal over there. |

Yes, a lot of initial weight dropped is just water retention.
Ah, that's a shame. Like another poster said if you can get it all from food, do that. It's always better to get it from your food anyway, but some people can't eat as much as is required and I can't vouch for the quality of the food out there as I've never been. Since the protein out there though is massively overpriced and low in quality, if you're looking to build muscle mass rather than just lose weight you need to try and get it all from food if you can't get hold of your own good quality sources from outside. |

I'd definitely allow for a week to prepare yourself then. I been training for over 2 years now, took a break over winter and finally went back on Tuesday. Was sore for 3 days. You can't just jump into a muay thai class and have no issues with the physicality, especially in Thailand itself where they go way rougher.

I thought I'd mention my diet plan...
Protein shake just before 8-10.30 training Three eggs, pouched or boiled, on brown toast after Chicken/pork/beef/fish, small amount of brown rice and a ton of steamed veggies This x 2 for lunch and dinner Another protein shake at some point in the day when I want it Chicken skewers for a snack in the evening Water, coffee, maybe a tea of some sorts, diet coke 1-2 glasses of red in the evening 1 day off with a fair few San Miguel light beers and a footlong sandwich with all the good stuff ![]() Any feedback on that please? |

If your goal is to lose fat and put on a bit of lean muscle then yeah it's fine.
I've put on a fair bit of muscle since I stopped kickboxing and just do weights. Your diet is not too dissimilar to mine. Average day for me Porridge for breakfast Tuna and rice for lunch Fruit and nuts to snack on Protein shake after gym Fish/Meat & steamed veg for dinner |
