ukash virus is killing me... need help

Good morning everyone

Last Christmas my PC was infected with the ukash virus (it basically blocks your computer with a fake message from the police saying you have done something illegal and asking for money to pay a fine and unblock your computer). At the time I googled and solved the problem following this link:

http://www.malwareexperts.com/how-to...e-ukash-virus/

Last night, same fucking thing, this virus again...

I tried the same but it didn't work, I googled for a number of solutions and they either don't work or they're too complicated for me to follow.

Right now I'm kinda in the middle of nowhere in a small village and there's nowhere I can go to have this fixed. I either solve it myself or I'll be without laptop for a week, and I really have work that needs to be done this week.

If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it, I spent the last 5 hours trying to figure this out with no success...

That would mean mountains of work to put things the way they are now. There has to be a better way.

It's not really that much work, how many programs/games do you have on that you actually use? 20-30? A few hours and your system will be much snappier.

There's a particular program that needs to be configured by someone from work so losing it now it's not an option.

Google and 30 minutes is all you need, if that.

Knowing what you're doing helps, which isn't the case.

Stop going to dodgy porn sites, opening emails from people you don't know, stop letting friends use your computer, get some good protection programs, etc.

Stop going to dodgy porn sites? Might as well kill myself while I'm at it.

I meant the virus. Find the name of the virus, Google the name plus the word 'fix' after it, or '2012' if it's re-surfaced, follow links and there you go.

My colleagues computer caught the 'Live security platinum virus' on Friday, managed to stop it from working by searching for a fix on Google.

Someone suggested restoring the system for a date previous to the infection. Would this work? Will I lose any text in word documents?

Do what hectic says. The virus tutorials are hard to understand in a way, but the instructions are usually very thorough and following them blindly will fix your problem.

Had a virus a few years ago and just typed "[virusname] fix". I had no idea what I was doing but its not hard to follow instructions.

boot into safemode with networking.

run command, msconfig, startup, disable anything that looks dodgy.

download malwarebytes, do a scan.

reboot. should be all ok again.

do a scan.

I restored the system and it's working again. No idea if the virus is gone or still lurking around though...

Same here, I came into this thread thinking I would probably have to refrain from making the obligatory AIDS-jokes.

If you can get on with your work now then fine, but when you are able to get it checked out (next week you said) do so to ensure no bad files are lurking.

This is what we did with laptop at work.

Avoid connecting to any networks, for example, or sharing memory sticks say to avoid any chance of passing it on to other computers.
