I would offer to do it this turn but I'm still relatively new to it, I'd be more than happy to later on in the game but for this first go I'd rather see how others do it... I'd mess it up without seeing others do it first.

It is fairly simple. You get everyone to write a post with this at the top of the post:

#exampletag1 - Poster X, Poster Y, Poster Z.

then below, they write their reasons for their suspects. Set a deadline at 6 or 7 pm.

If everyone has done this correctly you can just put "#exampletag1" into "search this thread." and everyone's lists for that turn will show up. You will have their list of suspects readily available on one search page, because everyone has posted it at the top of their post on the same line as the hashtag.

I create a doc each time, where I've pasted the list of living villagers from the frontpage.

From there on, I just copypaste the line of suspects after each name, then right-click the link to each post to copy the url and paste that in the line below (I include the url so people can go back and look at reasons for suspects. Basically, if people bookmark each daily report they can quickly get suspects lists and their reasons from any given poster in five minutes). It takes about 20 minutes.

Since I have the list of living players already, it is very easy to see who has not participated and remind them an 45 minutes or so before the deadline.

When all that is gathered in the doc, I award 'points' to suspects to make a heatmap. 3 points everytime someone is named top suspect, 2 when named 2nd top suspect and 1 for being named 3rd suspect. I put this at the top because it's the most relevant info as it gives a clear indication of who is suspected the most. Takes maybe 15 minutes.

I then spend another 2 minutes formatting it with different font sizes and bold fonts, for readability.

And that is basically it. If people do it wrong, it takes longer to collect, because you can't just copy paste one line from the search page to the document and have to open individual posts from the seach page and then type it in yourself.

The heatmap is important, imo. But it doesn't have to be the same person doing that. Once the list of suspects is published, anyone can extrapolate the relevant data.

I suppose what it mainly does is point who the favourites are for the lynch.

The main benefit in the first couple of days is that alerts the PVs they might be in danger and helps them make an informed decision on whether to come out depending on how much heat they're taking.

As far as the wolves are concerned, not a lot of benefit the first couple of day unless by some co-incidence (and it has to be co-incidence that early in the game), once of them looks to be up for the chop. Then there might be some tactical voting that could be useful to analyse later.

Someone's birthday tonight so we went for a meal. I think this will be the first time I've ever read the first pages of this since werewolf1 in the newbs. It's so useless unless anyone has something controversial interesting to say. Since people started to saying "don't give the wolves information" we may as well skip tonight

I'm not posting to get my post count up, I couldn't give a shit if I'm on 10 or 10000. I don't see how it harms anyone. It very rarely gets excessive anyway, so really, there's no real problem with it.

I entirely agree with you Irwin, but not on the first night. Honestly I've never properly read the first night except once, I usually just skip to the first lynch. Unless we're talking tactics which we are no longer allowed to do because "it gives the wolves too much information when its their go" we're not going to be saying anything other than: "I think we should lynch Sky because he drives home drunk", or "I think we should lynch Irwin because he is grumpy" and so on.

Are we allowed to talk tactics, and are we allowed to talk "I think xyz will be slaughtered in the morning because or zyx"

That's 100% fair enough. The first night used to be laugh in these games, but everyone got so serious and you got lynched for and little exchange you might have. As I have said several times I love a laugh too, but I hate the truly spammy posts like single smilies.
