SSN was running through a round up of the 10 most expensive players down the years, obviously the likes of Buffon, Crespo, Zidane, Kaka, Ronaldo & Torres were all there and then BANG Andy Carroll

Bet the likes of Buffon, Zidane & Kaka have never even heard of him

Zidane wanted to end his career at Newcastle, just so he could train with young Carroll.

Del Piero has only ever cried twice in his life watching a football player; the first one was Roberto (Baggio) and the second was Andy Carroll.

If Pool was owned by some dodgy Corsican mafia, I would have called this transfer an act of daylight money-laundering.

But since it was not...

He is a good prospect, has good attributes about him, I like the way he takes his shots and his calmness in front of goal, not to mention his aerial ability which is not just about scoring, but assisting to his team mates too...

I'd rate him 20m... Definitely no 35m... You buy worldclass players for that much and Andy is still very far away from being that.

That list has
4 x World Cup Winners
5 x World Player of the year
3 x Players who have led Serie A in scoring, 1 who led the EPL

8 of the players have been key members of teams who have won their respective leagues

... and of course, Andy Carroll.

Carroll did get 17 Championship goals last season, probably worth 2m per goal right there...

Correct, I thought he didn't play in 2002 but it turns out he had a brief appearance against Costa Rica.

It's now become the go to argument to justify any crazy transfer fee.

There's always an element of tempting fate with this sort of stuff, but he would want to have a season either on a par or better than Ronaldo's / Rooney's wonder seasons to justify the 35 million.

In fact he'd probably want to get in a couple of those types of seasons. It seems highly unlightly which would suggest that Newcastle milked you
