Rood for me's got one of the weaker back 5's in it but at the same time while Zen's front three is very good it's not one that's going to tear that defence apart. At the opposite end Rood's front three would do some damage but Marquez, Thuram and Buffon is possibly the best back three in this, and with Senna and Sousa helping out when needed along with two very defensively able fullbacks they're well set up to cope. Rood edges it in midfield.
Could be Roberto Carlos pushing forward that makes the difference because from what I remember Exteberria was pretty lax when it came to tracking back. These games have been a lot more even than last time round. |

I must say that I have little faith in a 4-4-2 with a midfield diamond. I don't think that tactic is all that. You have to fluid midfield and one striker who works his ass off.
What are Owen, Rivaldo and Milito going to do when Zen has the ball? Zen's strength in attack lies in width and both his wingers, Deco and Senna can switch the ball between flanks or pass it quickly. He's always going to get balls into the box or around it. Shame he hasn't a target man but Totti was quality at his best. Rood has 3 passers, 2 goal scorer and one genius. He can produce magic and Carlos might help on the left but I still think he should have with something extra on the right. Just look at Zen's defense in the middle. It's so much physically stronger as well. |

With hindsight, yesterday I was in a "solid defense and ball winning first" mode after seeing us concede three against the run of play and probably would have voted different otherwise.
Zen looks very strong at the back but don't see that much goalscoring potential. Roberto Carlos should have a lot of room to work that flank (don't think Etxeberria will trouble him much and Gallas can cover at LB, no problem, particularly with a false 9 being tracked by Guardiola and Carragher). Guardiola was at his best pinging superb balls for players running into acres of space. On his left he will have Carlos bombing forward, on the right Schneider can drift wide, through the middle he's got Rivaldo to find or Owen further down if the backs have pushed up... Rood for me here. |
