They listened to me.

They'll get Portos place

Said as soon as they didn't qualify, Uefa will smuggle them in. Weaste laughed at the suggestion.

It'll happen...

Pretty sick considering they won it the year after they were charged and convicted of match fixing. I want them in the semi's this year with United getting the home match for the second leg. Reckon we wipe the deck with them. Embarrasing by UEFA though, this seems to be a common occurence,

The next place teams in the league from where the kicked out clubs came from should replace them, not Milan.

Reuters says the spot will go to Levski Sofia.

Quote:
Levski set to replace CSKA in Champions League

Bulgarian league runners-up Levski Spartak will replace champions CSKA Sofia in next season's Champions League if their local rivals are banned from European competition, Levski owner Todor Batkov said on Wednesday. The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) said on Tuesday CSKA faced a European ban and expulsion from the domestic league after failing to meet licensing criteria. CSKA president Alexandar Tomov said his club would appeal.

Batkov said Levski were not prepared for the Champions League but would take part to avoid a possible sanctions. "Morally and from a sporting point of view we're not ready for the Champions League but we have to consider our situation as we'll be punished if we refuse to take part," Batkov told Nova TV.

CSKA won their 31st league title a month ago to earn a place in the Champions League's third qualifying round, which would now go to their traditional foes, who finished second in the domestic championship.

"One way or another, Bulgaria has a (Champions League) quota and I think it's normal to fill the vacancy," Batkov said. "UEFA's mercy is CSKA's only chance to keep their Champions League place. In my opinion, however, the chances of that happening are very slim."

The BFU said CSKA did not meet BFU Licensing Commission conditions because the club owed money to the National Social Security Institute, National Revenue Agency and creditors. The BFU has sent a letter to UEFA asking the European governing body to give CSKA an extension to meet the criteria.

Levski were the first Bulgarian club to contest the Champions League's group stage in 2006 and the prospect of playing in the biggest European club tournament once again has given fans cause for optimism. "It's just unbelievable," Levski fan Valentin Angelov said. "We should be called 'The Idiots Of Europe' if we missed the chance of playing against the top continental clubs."

Milan Set To Be Handed Champions League Place

The Rossoneri missed out on a place in Europe’s premier club competition after they only finished fifth in Serie A, following a hugely disappointing campaign.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men, who have been the dominant side in the competition over the past six years, winning two editions, and reaching a final, semi-final and quarter-final, were gearing themselves to play in the UEFA Cup in 2008/09.

However the Diavoli could now be on the verge of being granted a sensational back-door entry back into the Champions League. Bulgarian champions CSKA Sofia could be expelled from the competition due to financial problems,

CSKA have been denied a license to play in the Bulgarian league, and the Bulgarian FA (BFU) has now demanded that they be expelled from Europe too.

The normal procedure is that the BFU send the runner-up Levski Sofia to the CL instead, however it is reported that instead of this, the highest UEFA ranked team not already in the competition will be the replacement, and this is Milan.

The Rossoneri would enter at the second preliminary round, and it would mean that Italy would have five teams in the Champions League, the others being Inter, Roma, Juventus and Fiorentina.

Speculation still?

Sofia have already gone anyway.

Quote:
CSKA Sofia lose place in Europe

Bulgarian champions CSKA Sofia have been excluded from next season's Champions League.

The Bulgarian Football Association has refused to allow CSKA Sofia to compete because of the debts of the club.

It said: "CSKA will not participate in the 2008/2009 Uefa Champions League as this is a final decision."

CSKA president Alexandar Tomov has resigned and took responsibility for the club's position and stated: "It is me and only me who is to blame."
Add Porto to that as well at the moment.

Seems like they will get back in, at the end of the day with AC Milan in there it makes the CL more appealing to the sponsors and media - money.

I thought there was a rule that you could only have 4 clubs from one country in the CL.

They seem not prepared and may refuse to take part, in which case Milan will be awarded the void spot.

Its fecking ridiculous.

First Cska Sofia is banned for not having the money and now Porto.

It seems there was always gonna be a way to get Milan in the Champions League. If this was gonna be fixed then why is the point of a league table and a fecking drama of who gets fourth in the league.

The fair thing to do is to give the Champions League place to the team that follows in the same league of the team that got banned.

If its Cska sofia then give it to Levski and for Porto give it to Sporting Lisboa or whoever got the fourth place or third.

Why Milan, why not Everton or Sevilla or even the champions of Hungary?

Why Bayern had to spent a year in the Uefa cup when it could have been fixed also a place for them in the last champions league? The rules are for everybody and Milan deserve their UEFA cup next season. End of.

Milan are highest in the UEFA coefficients. I think it's a bit of a fucking coincidence that a team gets thrown out in an unprecedented manner, then the team behind them doesn't want to play in the Champions League in the same year Milan don't qualify.

Milan Handed Another Champions League Lifeline

Milan have been handed another Champions League lifeline as Romanian side Steaua Bucharest are on the verge of being excluded from the competition and this would open the door for the Rossoneri.

http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=725056

Well there is nothing more needed to see this is fixed. Every team is gonna be banned of the competition to make way for Milan.

THis is just pathetic and sad. Fair sport my arse.

From the above link.

Quote:
Steaua have already been penalised by the Bulagarian authorities and their president George Becali has been accused of match fixing. He is alledged to have paid another Romanian side $2.6m in order to help his side to win the league.

If this is the case then, just like Porto, they would be instantly kicked out under UEFA’s strict guidelines.

Their place would then be offered to Dinamo Bucarest. However, Dinamo have recently made their intentions clear and they do not want to play in the Champions League.

In this case, Milan would be given the place as UEFA’s highest ranked team.
Why would a team (Dinamo) not want to play in the CL? Surely they will get more money from it than whatever else they choose.

And forget about this Milan stuff and being unfair, what's more worrying is all these cases of match fixing cropping up.

Because Milan probably gave them a few mil to stay out of it.

Why weren't Milan banned in 2006?

Because they're fucking cheats and their mafia connections ensured that Uefa would get them into the tournament.

This is getting ridiculous, UEFA will lose their remaining credibilty if they let the cheats back in again against their own rules.

No Champions League Chance For Milan - UEFA
Milan’s hopes of playing in the Champions League next term have been dashed after UEFA Confirmed they have no chance of being given a place.

The Rossoneri were hoping they would be able to squeeze themselves into the competition after both Porto and CSKA Sofia were kicked out of the competition after breaking various UEFA guidelines.

Reports in Italy claimed the Rossoneri had a great chance of being given a place in next season’s competition. However, UEFA have revealed that there is no chance of this happening.

“It is absolutely impossible that Milan play in next season’s Champions League,” said UEFA spokesman, William Gaillard.

“The participants are not chosen based on the highest co-efficient but on the number of teams a country is allowed to enter.

“Therefore there is no possibility whatsoever of Milan playing in the Champions League next season.”

Milan will have to settle for the UEFA Cup as expected. Failure to qualify for the Champions League was down to Milan’s own downfall following a less than perfect campaign.
