The Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Thread.

Done well so far for Arsenal hasn't he?

I've been surprised at the maturity he's shown when thrown in at the deep end in amongst this turbulent start to the season for Arsenal. He's not all just pace either, get's his head up and picks a pass/cross.

Promising.

Hasn't he only one sub appearance so far? And wasn't 2 of his hat trick goals 100% the keepers fault?

Promising no doubt. Otherwise he wouldn't have been playing for the 1st team at Southampton and purchased by Wenger.

1 start and 1 sub app in the league. 0 goals.
1 start in the cup. 1 goal.
1 start in the Champions League. 1 goal.

I was excited to see him when we played Southampton last season, but I didn't see anything then to get excited about.

Just scored a hattrick for the under 21s against Iceland as well.

I think the best compliment you can give him for his performance against us is that he certainly didn't look out of place. On the day he outperformed Obertan and a few others quite comfortably. The snippets I've seen of him for Arsenal look promising for him/them and I suspect he's one of the players that Wenger/Pat Rice were referring to when they said that their new signings will make people eat their words about the current state of Arsenal.

Well, I only kept one eye on the kid, he didn't look out of place on the Southampton squad, but I didn't see a young star in the making, or a United player. Fair enough if you saw something more.

Not saying that one game means a lot, it's just the only game I've seen him in. His youtube resume is pretty blasé, not that it means much, but if you hear a lot of hype you at least expect a decent youtube reel.

But of any sport I've watched, footballers are the hardest young talent to judge. He could well go on to be a world beater, it can be very hard to tell, the Ronaldo's and Messi's aside.

Not bad, 3rd as well as obviously the 2nd probably should have been saved.

His debut will always be an 8 - 2 loss to us

I think he's going to be a fantastic player. I even remember telling a crestfallen gooner friend that his debut against us was a sign of great things to come. Really stood out amongst all the other half-arsed gooners on the day.

Chances are he won't spend his best days at Arsenal, mind you. Their problems run deep.

He wasn't what Arsenal needed at the time and probably one of the reasons why they couldn't sign a proper defender and midfielder as they spent £12m on him but when a special talent comes along, you need to buy them because there will be no second chance. We did that with Rooney and Jones for example, two players we could have done without at the time but had to go for them because they were too good to miss out on. Chamberlain might fall into the same category for Arsenal.

Yeah, he will probably move to City in three or four years if he develops properly, after refusing to sign a £10k improvement on his current deal. That's how they roll.

I think he definitely falls into that category. In terms of the position he plays he was almost exactly what they didn't need. I guess they have to take a long term view though. Mind you, Wenger's long term view seems to get pushed out further and further each year.

He is going to be a top class player in my opinion. He should learn a good trade at Arsenal also.

He's going to be a great player, although I doubt it will be at Arsenal for too long.

After we secure Wilshere, we should look into this lad.

I bet they didn't even spend half of that on him this season.

I'd suspect the majority of it will be paid over the years and if he hits certain milestones, not upfront.

I thought we were rubbish other than the 3 goals, but Iceland were fucking terrible. I thought you said they were meant to be fairly decent at that level..or is it a new crop of players?

I stated quite early that his would happen. There are like 2 players left in the squad that was good. They're all in the national team. A few players already had 10 caps when they played this summer.

A lot has also to do with the goalkeeper. The last one, who is now the Iceland nr. 3, is quite bad and I knew well that this one was going to play and be shit. I think the only reason he starts is that he plays abroad and therefor must be the best we've got.

The next Walcott.

But in all seriousness, he seems a smart lad capable of dribbling and picking his head up - it's quite like rubbing your stomach and patting your head, only for the brave and truly skilled.

But as usual, he's someone with potential - not someone who'll put in a good shift all season and get Arsenal points.

That substitution made no sense. Not only is he better than Arshavin, but his pace could also be key at this stage of the match.
